Search for the perfect web stack

I've been involved in a lot of discussions about what the perfect web stack is. I'm sure you have too. This evening we will make a list of traits this stack should have and frameworks that match closely.

We're going to have this meet at Eten Bij Mij again. Some of you might remember the location.

Please bring examples in the frameworks you love so we can compare notes.

Just ran into this, haven't played with it, but it sounds interesting and since we also talked about templating it might be of interest to some :)

Not prod ready, but very promising for the longterm I think

I just came across this today: we should have totally discussed this as well: http://html9responsiveboilerstrapjs.com/

As a developer stuck in the iron age, it is good to hear what the people in the industrial age are doing.

First commit some Unfiltered code though, since – you know – it's just so much fun.

Hurry man, it's starting to smell like good food here :)

I've just arrived, first one here! Looking forward to meeting you all :)

    September 11, 2013

I'll be there between 17:30 and 18:00. Looking forward to meeting all of you and your stories/opinions!

Hi, sorry but I can't make it. Last minute release. Hate to miss this one and @Michiel Stoffels food :(

    September 11, 2013

  • jc (Jonathan C.

Just checking - does it start at 4pm i.e. 16:00?

    September 11, 2013

  • Wilfred S.

I just realized "food bar" is actually remarkably close to "foobar" and sounds a lot like "fubar". A Levensteihn distance of 1!

Hi everyone, I'm the chef for your Code(food, bar) event this Wednesday. Can I count on all of you joining in? I'll be doing all the cooking and preperations for a group of 24 and I'd hate to have to throw away any food...:) Also, if you have any dietary wishes, please email Iwein so he can put it all together and send it to me. See you Wednesday! Michiel

      Expect me around 17:00

      September 10, 2013

    • Benny van G.

Will not join, have to move somebody into his new appartment. I bet his delivered pizza is not as good as your cooking though. Better luck next time. Perhaps in Utrecht again?

Apart from a lot of hardcore JSP experience, I have some experience with Vaadin. A nice Swing-like web framework.

    August 27, 2013

    • Iwein F.

You must mean "nice" as in: server-side stateful, littered with concurrency bugs, proprietary and impossible to style? I have had thing with Vaadin, I'll tell you all about it if you want :D

      September 5, 2013

    • Iwein F.

Hey Jeroen, I hope my low tolerance with Vaadin is not the reason you're not coming anymore. I'm just mean towards technology you know :)

  • Martijn l.

Sadly I won't be able to join, would have loved to butt heads with everyone on favorite stacks/methodologies. We at Q42 use everything from .net(mvc/nancyfx), java(jsp/GAE/play1 & 2/spring), js(node/meteor) and flirt with even more. Have fun all :)

  • Friso van V.

Does the meetup end as early as 1900? It's hard for me to make it at 1600 already. Just wondering whether I should bother then...

    September 9, 2013

    • Iwein F.

There's no end time, if you're in around 17:30 you won't go hungry. I'll be there from 16h, until I go home :)

      September 9, 2013

    • Friso van V.

In that case, I will be there at about 1700.

Grails and Python seems like the perfect combination to me, and given enough beer, I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

    August 26, 2013

    • Erik P.

I'd love a good language fight, but I don't have enough skills in Python to win this one. So far, the language is nice, the eco system not so. But Grails is my middle name and already the winner of the evening even before we get started, which is nice, so there's more time for beer and food!

      1 · August 27, 2013

    • Wilfred S.

There is not enough beer in the world that would make me buy into that stack. ;-)

It sounds like we'll have a shoot-out coming up; I'm in the Unfiltered and AngularJS camp.

    September 5, 2013

  • Albert S.

    Anyone tried openResty?

    1 · August 6, 2013

    • Iwein F.

not yet, did you want to play with it?

      August 9, 2013

  • Dmitry I.

:) would be happy to hear about trending web frameworks... did work stuff on Jersey, SpringMVC, LiftWeb, Spray, little bit Play2 also...

    August 9, 2013

  • Iwein F.

And where are the Rubyists, Nodists?

    August 3, 2013

  • Benny van G.

Nice topic. I might share my Django experiences (and convert you all to Djangonauts muhaha). I really hope to discover another interesting framework!

    • Arjan M.

Just did a little Tornado + Bottle (considering you're looking for Python frameworks)

      1 · August 2, 2013

    • Javier A.

I have used tornado for a restful api, the code is really well commented and they have good documentation

      August 2, 2013

  • Age M.

I can share something about my preferred approach, which is REST + single page webapps. I prefer using Scala and Spray for building REST APIs and it seems that AngularJs is currently the best tool for building frontends so I've been experimenting with that. The combination sounds to me like the perfect web stack.

    1 · August 1, 2013

    • Iwein F.

We've used that combination for several StarterSquad.com clients. It rocks.

      August 2, 2013

  • Iwein F.

I'd like to see some more on backends with Clojure and Haskell. Also I'd like to meet someone that has done a Meteor app for a real application. I feel comfortable talking about AngularJS, Spray.

This is an excellent meetup group ... After I moved back to India, I have started group with similar format (http://www.meetup.com/JSChannel-NCR/) ... code and eat (no drink unfortunately :( ).

    1 · July 29, 2013

    • Iwein F.

Awesome! It's really not about the drink. When you're in a bar, you talk without time pressure. Somehow western culture has equated that with alcohol, but the less you drink, the more interesting the conversation.

      July 29, 2013

    • Ganesh G.

True ... And I kept this group to be self sponsored which has filtered non-serious people. And also we are hosting a series of javascript conferences. Two small kind of regional and one main conference (2 days) in March. http://www.jschannel....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
