Thank you Sky and Andrew for the feedback. I've registered for the space apps challenge. Perhaps my statistical background may help.
Regarding the kick-off party, I'm unable to attend due to prior arrangements unfortunately. Please keep me in the loop with any ideas, meeting location and time on Saturday, April 20.
My email address: [masked]. I look forward to meeting you all.

@mayra - having a stats background is very cool! I'm doing some work on the "Earth Day" challenge, looking at EPA's air quality data set and trying to do something with it. There's a LOT of data there... having a stats background will help!

@mayra - don't worry so much about 'coding'. On the mailing list of introductions, a family of 4 is coming (parents + 2 kids ~12 years old). So coding is not essential (but a lot of projects are geared towards that...)

There is also a kick-off party for the hackathon on Friday night and an actual astronaut from NASA will be there. We should definitely try to meet there and finalize our idea for the hackathon. Here is the registration link: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/6226767429/?ref=garysguide

@Mayra and Kim... I think anyone can join (no matter your code skill) It seems that it's all about gathering together and merging ideas (=

Hey there! This event sounds very exciting. I understand it is a codeathon, do you really think regular folks like myself can be of any use here? I have very little programming experience.
