    Hello CodeCrew,

Really enjoyed meeting everyone last night -- amazing group! Thank you to our hosts for organizing.

You can grab the exercises we ran through yesterday here:
    http://dcrmstrat-knowledgebase.appspot.com/static/codecrew.zip

And the slide deck is here:
    http://slid.es/andytzou/codecrew

    ~~
Tonight is round 2 targeted at a slightly more experienced crowd, however we still run through core concepts that are beginner-friendly. We'll be demonstrating object-oriented programming , how professional software developers organize their code to make it easy to share, debug, maintain and extend. We'll use this to build a functioning image carousel. These patterns are must-know for practitioners of all levels and have been standard practice for many decades. Hope to see you there!

As replied to Alexia earlier: "You should be fine as long as you're willing to learn... don't be afraid of not getting some concept because this group is full of great people who are always ready to help and learn from each other :)"

Just a quick note to you Toti, if you're already a proficient programmer Wednesday's session would be a better fit!

      1 · June 3, 2013

    • Toti

Thank you Andy. I'll be there on both days, a refresher never hurts I guess and there may be something to learn for me as well... if not I might be able to help others.

Hey guys, very excited to see so many signups already! We'll have two short but very intense hours together Tuesday and Wednesday evening and I'm eager to make it count.

Tuesday's session is geared toward a novice-ish audience, where we'll power through the "must-know" fundamentals of JavaScript and immediately apply it by hitting Facebook, Google+, and Flickr to do some fun things.

Wednesday's session is aimed at an intermediate audience with programming experience, though I beginners will still benefit because this is must-know for practicing developers. We'll be showing how to properly structure your JavaScript code using tried & true object-oriented design. We'll use this to build an image carousel gallery together. Because we have so little time together each evening, we won't be able to have a "code-along" where we help each student like our regular workshops -- however all our code will be posted and shared afterward so you can tinker!

When on Eventbrite, what key word should we search under?

    June 3, 2013

    • Jamal

The link is in the meetup description but you can find it by searching for Code Crew on Eventbrite.

      June 3, 2013

  • Jimmy C.

Hey Jamal, do we need to bring our laptops for this or will we just watch what they do?

    May 31, 2013

    • Jimmy C.

Back to back is actually not great for me. I can attend Tues but I won't be able to attend Weds. Is it even worthwhile for me to attend the first session if I can't make it to the second? I think the one day Saturday session is better as most people are free on weekends, even if you have to make it a Sunday.

      June 2, 2013

    • Jamal

We were not able to secure a space on Saturday or this session; however, if things go well we will may have the Saturday intensive session that we originally planned.

      June 3, 2013

  • Toti

One interesting thing is that this meetup is not showing in my iCal as one of the meetings I am going to... API's oddities. Anyone encountered the same issue?

    June 2, 2013

  • Alexia

Is this workshop for true beginners as I only have some background in HTML & CSS? Thanks!

    June 1, 2013

    • Toti

You should be fine as long as you're willing to learn... don't be afraid of not getting some concept because this group is full of great people who are always ready to help and learn from each other :)

Thanks Toti. Alexia you will be fine. Andy will cover some of the basics in the first session.

Is the eventbrite up so I can purchase a ticket to this event?

      June 1, 2013

  • Angelica S.

Sorry didn't realize this was on a Saturday and I can't make it :-/

    May 31, 2013

    • Jamal

The date has been updated. We couldn't get a space for the weekend so we will break it up into two back-to-back sessions on a week night.
