We are excited to announce that Luke Quilter from Sleeping Giant Media (sleepinggiantmedia.co.uk) has agreed to come along and talk about the highs and lows of building a tech business in Folkestone. This one will be less tech orientated than recent meet-ups but we are sure there will be lots to glean from Luke's experiences.
In Luke's words:
"The focus of the talk will be how tech businesses can connect with their customers and promote themselves effectively in what is a intangible end product/service"
Luke will share his experiences of setting up and growing his business, the challenges he's faced and what he feels it takes to run a sucessful business.
A bit of background on Luke and his company:
In 2008, Luke took the leap to start his second business when he was still just 25 years old. Sleeping Giant Media was run part time from his living room alongside continued full time work and studying for his masters in marketing. In 2009 Luke left his employment and took the business full time. A year later, Sleeping Giant Media was a finalist for the Best Start Up Business at the Invicta Chamber business awards. This success continued; in 2011, Luke won the accolade of KEiBA Young Entrepreneur and was appointed to the board of trustees for the Kent Foundation. SGM have recently been awarded KICC business of the year 2014.
In less than four years, Sleeping Giant Media has grown from two people working part time in a living room to a staff of over 26 housed on the top floor of Shepway District Council’s Civic Centre building overlooking the whole of Folkestone and are growing all the time.
The format will be the same as usual, start at 7 for chat/pizza/drink, then the talk and some good discussion afterwards. Then the pub!
Thanks to The Workshop for hosting us again (it really feels like our 'home' there now) and to Campaign Monitor for the sponsorship money that pays for the drinks and food.
Hope to see you on the 3rd of April.
Wes and Keith
