Friday Evening Chess Meetup

Play chess and have fun with our group at the Corner Bakery Cafe on 83rd Avenue (just south of Bell Road!)

Chess meetups start at 6pm and go until the Corner Bakery Cafe closes at 9pm.
If you have a good chess board or clock, please bring it! Just like the Saturday group, if you don't have a chess board, you're still welcome to come (technically, only half of the people have to bring boards for everyone to be able to play).

Please note: This is a fixed, regular weekly meetup. This is currently a small group and usually 5-10 people show up every week, but we are looking to increase attendance! If at all possible, please RSVP, as this helps to show members how popular the meetup actually is!

We don't have a membership fee, and our meetup group really only has one rule that we ask:

Please don't take the game too seriously. Winning and losing doesn't matter here. We're not playing rated games, and this isn't a tournament. Just have fun with it, and make some friends! If you do this, I guarantee you will not only have a blast, but will most likely improve your chess game over time without even realizing it!

One further note, although not a strict requirement, it would be great if people bought food/drinks/etc from the Corner Bakery. As long as we give them some business and show our friendliness and patronage, they will continue to welcome us!

If we bring drinks/food with us from other places or only ever order things like water, it's only a matter of time before our group would end up without a home... :-\

Sounds good, Fred. I look forward to meeting your students! Just a reminder - we have the small room up front reserved starting this week so feel free to set up in there!

Actually, at this group most of the people have been playing untimed games. That said, if someone wants to play blitz or play a timed longer game, there is usually someone else who might be interested. But if you have no desire to play with a clock, you will have no problem finding someone willing to play a game with you!

Hi, I see you ask for members to bring clocks, so i assume you are a bullet playing group. does anyone play untimed games? I have been playing online at chess.com forever and run many online leagues. most are 2 or 3 day per move corrospondence type games so not much experiance with fast games.
