ABOUT THIS SESSION:

Our noon (US ET) talk on Thursday Dec 3 will be "Integrating Your Custom Design with Mura", with Steve Withington.

TOPIC DESCRIPTION: (provided by the speaker)

Tired of trying to shoe-horn your custom design into someone else's content management system? Drop in and learn how to fully integrate your custom CSS and HTML with Mura CMS, a comprehensive, ColdFusion-powered, open source content management system. In less than sixty minutes, I'll attempt to cover:

Exploring Mura templates & themes
Integrating your custom CSS & HTML
Creating Mura components
Creating Feeds/Indexes
Creating Custom Feeds/Indexes

If you haven't already done so, it might behoove you to catch part one, "Getting Started with Mura CMS", offered on the CFmeetup on Nov 12, with the recording here.

SPEAKER: (provided by the speaker)

I’ve been using Adobe® ColdFusion® since CF5 and building web applications for over 10 years. My first "major" site was for a fantasy football league I was a commissioner for many moons ago. This was before Yahoo!, ESPN and others jumped on the fantasy sports bandwagon. I bought a program that would compile stats each week (think floppy discs) and I would transfer this information (by hand of course) to the web site. I had a form for team owners to submit their lineup which was sent to me via email (that was hot stuff back in the day!). Things sure have come a long way since then!

Today I’m the lead web developer at Ignition Studio, Inc., a full-service advertising agency located in Rockford, Illinois. I have experience working on a wide variety of projects ranging from small, non-profit companies to large multi-national corporations.

Recently, I’ve been leveraging the power of Mura CMS (along with my knowledge of ColdFusion, SQL, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, etc.) to shorten the development timeframe for some of the most common feature requests and allow clients the ability to manage their own content. I’m excited to share my knowledge of Mura (a comprehensive, open-source content management system) with others in hopes of helping other CFML developers become acquainted with its power and flexibility.

RECORDING: As always, the meeting will be recorded, and the recording URL will be posted after the meeting at http://recordings.coldfusionmeetup.com.

ABOUT THIS SESSION:

Our 6pm (US ET) talk on Thursday Dec 3 will be "Merlin Manager - CF Management and Monitoring System", with John Mason.

TOPIC DESCRIPTION: (provided by the speaker)

Is server management a pain? Are you missing critical patches? Does setting up a new server take half the day? Merlin manager is designed to solve many of the problems we experience as ColdFusion server administrators. Merlin is an AIR based desktop application that can run on Windows, Mac or Linux environments to remotely manage, monitor and configure multiple ColdFusion servers with ease. It works on CF versions 7, 8 and 9, and has several unique features that are not in the CF Admin or the ColdFusion 9 Server Manager. It's currently in public beta and it is free to download and use.

SPEAKER: (provided by the speaker)

John is the lead developer for Merlin Manager, an AIR based ColdFusion server management and monitoring system. He is the founding member of the popular RIApodcast.com and the Online Flex Meetup - flexmeetup.com.

John also founded and served as the first president of the Atlanta Flash/Flex Users Group, and is currently a board member of the Atlanta ColdFusion Users Group, one of the largest CF user groups in the world.
John maintains several popular open source projects at RIAforge.org such as Portcullis, a sql injection and cross-site (XSS) filter. He earned his MBA in 2001 from Georgia Southern University and is the current President/CEO of FusionLink, a ColdFusion and Flex hosting company based in Atlanta, Georgia.
