ABOUT THIS SESSION:
Our noon (US EDT) talk on Thursday Aug 20 will be Dan Skaggs presenting , "Using Tomcat and Eclipse to Develop Applications for Any CFML Engine".
TOPIC DESCRIPTION:
This session will describe how to configure a robust, flexible local development environment for building CFML applications using the combination of Apache Tomcat 6, Eclipse 3.5, and any of the various CFML engines available today. We will talk about the advantages of this particular configuration, why you would want to set up an environment like this, and, just as importantly, why you might not want this configuration.
This presentation, and the environment we describe, was inspired jointly by Kurt Wiersma's presentation entitled “Setting Up A Solid Local Development Environment” as well as Matt Woodward's presentation titled “Running Multiple CFML Engines on Apache Tomcat”. We will build on the information in those presentations by showing you how to use Eclipse not only to develop CFML applications, but also to manage server settings and monitor console output for your various projects.
SPEAKER:
Dan Skaggs is co-founder of Web-Meister Designs, Inc., a web development consulting firm he and his wife started in 1999 as a part-time endeavor. In 2006, Dan transitioned to the role of independent consultant, working full-time through Web-Meister for clients of all sizes located across the United States. A web developer since 1998, Dan has been developing ColdFusion applications since 2000 and has held multiple ColdFusion certifications. Recently, he has contributed to various open-source efforts within the CF community and is looking forward to expanding that effort in the future.
