"Amazon Web Services: the Next Wave", with Mike Culver of Amazon

When: Thursday, Feb 7, 12:00pm EST (GMT-5) (What time is that for you? See http://www.timeanddat... which shows it at EST, and you can choose your city from the list offered to see your time.) Meeting URL: http://experts.acroba... Duration: Approx. 1 hour Meeting will be recorded. URL will be posted after meeting on the Meetup Message Board (in the first msg, at http://tinyurl.com/2d...) We'll have two speakers on Thursday, Feb 7. First up will be Mike Culver of Amazon on "Amazon Web Services: the Next Wave". I'll have more on the 6pm speaker later in a separate entry. Description (provided by the speaker): In this session Amazon Web Services Evangelist Mike Culver will update us on what Amazon is up to in the Web Services space. Many of you are already familar with AWS, which we looked at in a recent Online Meetup. In this session Mike will focus on several new Web Services such as Amazon Flexible Payments Service, as well as Amazon SimpleDB--a brand new database Web service that promises to be as popular as the other blockbuster releases from Aamzon. Speaker: Mike Culver joined the Developer Relations Group of Amazon Web Services in 2006. He brings with him fifteen years of technology leadership experience, including at companies such as Microsoft. In addition Mike has a strong background running an IT organization, with over a decade of experience in the Electrical Wholesale Distribution industry. As a Web Services Evangelist at Amazon, he helps developers take advantage of disruptive technologies that are going to change the way we think about computer applications, and the way that businesses compete. Notices: PLEASE NOTE: when you login to the Connect room (the experts.acrobat.com/cfmeetup link above) to view the meeting, PLEASE LOGIN AS A GUEST. Do NOT attempt to use your meetup.com username/password. The login screen presented there has no connection to meetup.com. And if you have a real Connect account, don't use that either. Just sign in as a guest. It's just not worth the time to try to track who RSVPs and add them manually as participants in each meeting. You have no fewer features as a guest as when you would login with your own account. Thanks. As always, we do appreciate folks RSVPing if they plan to come (using the link on this email or at the meetup site), though it's not mandatory and it's not a commitment. BTW, no need to RSVP if you can't make it nor even explain why you can't. With 1,300+ members, there's really no reason to explain your absence. :-) We'll also appreciate your sharing your feedback after the meeting (also offered via a follow-up email or via a link on the site). Finally, again, the recording URL will be posted on the Meetup Message Board, which can also be reached directly via http://tinyurl.com/2d...

Just to clarify in reply to David's feedback, Mike "skipped" EC2 and S3 intentionally, because Adam Howitt had spoken previously on those in previous talks here in the meetup (11/1 and 11/15). I had informed him of that up front, and I did mention it during the opening (I thought). But I should have had him clarify that in the description of the talk. Sorry I didn't think of that. But you can see the recordings of the other talks, at http://tinyurl.com/2dbdnk.

I'm a bit surprised he skipped right over EC2/S3 (that's what I told my team to join for), but personally I was very intererested to learn more about SimpleDB, and maybe now I can get an account with Mike's help. I don't think it will help others, unfortunately, that the beta is closed.
