"CFInterface", with Robin Hilliard (special time: 11pm US EDT)

When: Thursday, May 1, 11:00pm US EDT (GMT-5) (What time is that for you? See this link which shows the time as US EDT and you can choose your city from the list offered to see it in your own time.) Meeting URL: http://experts.acroba... Duration: Approx. 1 hour Meeting will be recorded. URL will be posted after meeting at http://recordings.col... We'll have 2 speakers for Thursday, May 1. The first, at noon, was announced earlier. Our 2nd talk will be "CFInterface", with Robin Hilliard. Please note this will be at a very special time 11pm (US EDT). Recognizing that we have a world-wide audience, and with our speaker being in Australia, this is a test of making our times more acceptable to a wider audience. What's nighttime to you may be morning elsewhere. And don't forget that all our meetings are recorded. Description: (provided by the speaker) With all the fantastic new features in ColdFusion 8 you could be forgiven for overlooking the CFInterface tag. But with the introduction of CFInterface Adobe has given us a fundamental concept of most object oriented programming languages that has been missing since the introduction of components in CFMX, a concept used to great effect in many key design patterns and extensible software frameworks like Eclipse. In this presentation Robin explains what an interface is, how they're used in software design and how to use CFInterface to bring them to your ColdFusion applications. It's a lot simpler and cooler than you might think. Speaker: Robin Hilliard is founder and CEO of RocketBoots, a commercially focused community of independent RIA experts. He is an experienced software architect, with a particular focus on Adobe?s ColdFusion, Flex, LiveCycle, Flash and Flash Media Server products. Formerly with Allaire and Macromedia, Robin is a certified ColdFusion and Flash developer, an Adobe certified Master ColdFusion and Flex Instructor with a BSc in Computer Science and Pure Mathematics from Sydney University. Robin is based in Sydney, Australia. RECORDING: As always, the meeting will be recorded, and the recording URL will be posted after the meeting at http://recordings.col.... LOGGING IN: When you login to the Connect room (the experts.acrobat.com/cfmeetup link above) to view the meeting, PLEASE USE THE "LOGIN AS GUEST" option, and use your real name, but do NOT attempt to use your meetup.com username/password. The login screen presented there has no connection to meetup.com. And if you have a real Connect account, don't use that either. Just sign in as a guest. It's just not worth the time to try to track who RSVPs and add them manually as participants in each meeting. You have no fewer features as a guest as when you would login with your own account. Thanks. RSVP, only if coming: As always, we do appreciate folks RSVPing if they plan to come (using the link on this email or at the meetup site), though it's not mandatory and it's not a commitment. BTW, no need to RSVP if you can't make it nor even explain why you can't. With nearly 1,500 members, there's really no reason to explain your absence. :-) We'll also appreciate your sharing your feedback after the meeting (also offered via a follow-up email or via a link on the site). Add this to your calendar: If you would like to easily add this event to your own personal calendar, please note that the page for the event offers a link (on the right) saying, "Add this meeting to your calendar", which offers links to get calendar downloads for Outlook, iCal, Google, and Yahoo calendars. For now, there's no means for me to add these as attachments to the email sent out about each meeting.

As an already late-scheduled meetup, the technical problems and ensuing delay made it run too late and I had to drop off.

Hope you all find this presentation useful - unfortunately I had a client meeting run over time before the presentation, took ages to find a taxi and didn't have time to test the Connect setup - which of course broke because I had installed Leopard since last installing the presenter plugin (guaranteed to break anything you really want to work). Anyway, if you have any questions feel free to contact me using the form on the RocketBoots site. Cheers,

Due to some technical difficulties on the presenter's part, we didn't get started until nearly 20-30 min after the actual start time. Once Robin was able to get thing together, his presentation went pretty quickly. A few minor glitches here and there, but overall a good presentation. I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate CFInterface into my routine.
