Hey

Can anyone recommend a CF host? I am looking for a setup that will run MySQL and CF MX7. I will also be needing to implement a subscription payment senario.

The traffic is not expected to be huge ;0)

Getting the cheapest price is NOT so important to me, I would rather pay a bit extra for good service/support.

Thanks

Hi Graham,
I use and highly recommend hostmysite. They are maybe not the cheapest guys on the block, but their support staff always fixes any sever issues right away. You really do get what you pay for, as I used to use a $5.00/month host, and they were there worse support I ever dealt with!

Good luck,
John

Hi Graham,

I have one site with hostmysite.com and have had a lot of issues with them. John may have had a good experience, but I've found them to be hard to work with.

I have over 25 sites hosted with CrystalTech.com and absolutely love them. One of our sites has done over $400,000 in sales in the first year and we haven't had a single complaint about slow load time. The site was down for 4 hours the Monday after Thanksgiving, but that was due to an attack that affected several large hosting companies.

Here is the link to their ColdFusion plans. They are very reasonably priced and don't hold any of the CF functionality captive like GoDaddy for instance: http://crystaltech.co... Also, if you buy one plan and ask to be a reseller, you start saving 3% for each plan after that up to 30%. They are also running a "pay for a year and get 3 months free" special. All of the specials can be found at: http://crystaltech.co....

Let me know if you have any other questions. I would be happy to give you some site URLs to look at to compare speed.

Good luck!
Jen

Has anyone had experience with dailyrazor.com? The prices seem reasonable . . .

Thanks to all for their tips. I will almost certainly go with one of your recommendations and will let you know how I get on.

On a related issue, the commerce aspect that I need to implement is a subscription service allowing subcribers to view flash movies. Does anyone have thoughts on an off the shelf package to take payment and control the subscriptions? I have the app built to deliver the content and log people in and out working already.

Thanks
Graham

Graham,

Just wanted to give another positive review of hostmysite.com. We moved three dozen or so sites from an old ev1.net dedicated server into various plans with them and the process was much smoother than I expected it to be. Their front line support is not always 100% correct in their diagnosis but in the end they do whatever it takes to get things solved. They have been willing to dig through 3rd party scripts (PHP in our case) to identify the source of problems and make recomendations for solutions. I have never gotten the standard "it's a code problem, not our problem" response when troubleshooting issues (like file upload related permissions errors or missing shared PEAR libraries). I've also had great experiences with their second tier support and dedicated server sales team. Their VPS plans have been a great option for our clients who need a more stable solution than shared account but don't want or can't afford a managed dedicated server. They are currently offering free CFMX8 Beta hosting (you may need to have a regular account with them to sign up for this) and have a lot of experience supporting CF.

Just my 2c ;)

Hi Again,
you should try hostmysite. They have "FREE" cf8 hosting:
http://www.hostmysite...

I asked them, and you do not need an account there to use it, as my friend here in Hawaii was asking me that.

Check them out, and see if you like them.

I used ChrystalTech which was good and inexpensive. But when we were in need of a dedicated server (run all CF features, scheduled tasks, CFFILE etc. and our own MySQL) we moved to CFDynamics. They are very responsive if call them - e-mail response takes too long and anything else even longer. But they are good guys. We are running a dedicated server there with CF7.02, MySQL 5.0.41 on Win 2003. Everything is very smooth. $300/month inc. all licenses.

Well I signed up with ChrystalTech though I could easily have gone with a couple of others mentioned in these messages.

I signed up for 3 months which should be enough to get me going.

I will report back if anything exciting happens.

Thanks again to all.
