Snowshoe hike down to Fox Creek Grotto on Rock Creek from the Taylor Mtn Road in Allenspark. BRING SNOWSHOES and microspikes (traction cleats). Area has received 8-10 inches of new snow this week. We'll walk in a mile or so on a jeep road then follow a trail down a gulch to Rock Creek. Wear waterproof boots and bring at least one liter of water and snacks/lunch. Trekking/snowshoe poles, leg gaiters, sunglasses, and sunscreen also recommended. Bring clothing to handle the predicted weather conditions and maybe a little more. Current forecast is for mostly sunny skies, temps around 35 degrees, and wind gusts as high as 25 mph.
Total RT distance: ~ 6.5 miles.
Trailhead Elevation: ~ 8400 ft.
Max elevation: ~8800 ft.
Min elevation: ~7900 ft.
Total climb: ~1500 ft.
This is an blue (intermediate) level snowshoe at a pace of around 2 mph including rest stops. An up/down/up/down hike. Don't expect the trail to be packed. Total hike time should be about 4 hours and about 1 hour each way for drive time.

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I normally lead hikes that I've done before. I don't do technical climbs but some of my hikes have strenuous climbs that may require using some handholds and require good physical strength and agility. I am not a professional guide. You are responsible for yourself.
