Snowshoe hike to Mills and Jewel Lakes and beyond to Black Lake from the Glacier Gorge parking area in RMNP.  Snowshoes required. Wear waterproof boots and bring at 1-2 liters of water and snacks/lunch. Trekking/snowshoe poles, leg gaiters, sunglasses, and sunscreen also recommended.  Bring clothing to handle the predicted weather conditions and maybe a little more.  Current forecast is for sunny skies, temps around 30 degrees, and wind gusts above 10 mph.

Total RT distance: ~ 8 miles.

Trailhead Elevation: ~ 9200 ft.

Max elevation:  ~10700 ft.

Total climb: ~1700 ft.

This is an advanced blue (intermediate) level snowshoe at a pace of around 1.5-2 mph including rest stops.   Total hike time should be 4-5 hours and about 1 hour 15 minute each way for drive time.

If anyone wants to meet the group at the at the Lyons PnR or at trailhead, please comment when you sign up.

Please read the hike description carefully and don't sign up for the hike unless you are confident you can complete the described hike (Pace, expected conditions, RT distance, total climb, and max elevation). I reserve the right to cancel the sign up of anyone I don't deem a good fit for the hike.

Dogs: Not in RMNP.

We do regrouping stops at all trail intersections.

Please be prompt so others are not kept waiting. Five minute wait for no-shows.

Please, don't show up for a hike unless your YES RSVP has been accepted for you and any guest(s) that you intend to bring with you.

Please cancel if you decide not to attend so spaces will be available for others.

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I normally lead hikes that I've done before. I don't do technical climbs but some of my hikes have strenuous climbs that may require using some handholds and require good physical strength and agility. I am not a professional guide. You are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear and conditioning you require.
And lastly, anyone choosing to hike with our group should carry personal medical insurance and a CORSAR (Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue) card in case of an emergency.
