Calypso Cascades/Finch Lake Loop Lollipop Hike

A loop hike starting from the Allenspark Trailhead and hiking in to Calypso Cascades, then up Cony Creek on a fisherman's trail to Finch Lake (elevation 9910 ft.), and back to the trailhead on the Allenspark Trail.  There should be some nice spring flower displays along the trails (maybe even some Calypso orchids).

Total Round Trip distance:  About 8.5 miles.

Trailhead elevation: 8900 ft.

Max elevation:  10,150 ft.

Total Climb: About 1900 ft.

Moderate pace of around 2 mph including rest stops.  Hike should take about 5 hours plus about an hour drive to and from the trailhead.

An mid intermediate level hike. All on trail but the hike up Cony Creek above Calypso Cascades is narrow and a little steep in places.  Probably a few class 2 spots but i find those are easier going up than coming down. Bring at least two liters of water, snacks, a lunch to enjoy at Finch Lake, and appropriate clothing for the predicted weather.  Expect temperatures near 70 degrees and a slight probability (20%) of afternoon Tstorms. . Hiking boots, trekking poles, hat, and, sunscreen also recommended.  Long pants would probably be a good idea for the hike up Cony Creek.

Anyone who wants to meet the group in Lyons at the ParknRide, let me know in advance and be there at 8:15 am.

Please read the hike description and don't sign up for the hike unless you are confident you can complete the described hike (expected conditions, RT distance, total climb, max elevation, and pace).

Dogs: Not allowed on Rocky Mtn Natl Park trails.
Please be prompt so others are not kept waiting.  Five minute wait for no shows.

We do regrouping stops at all trail intersections.

Please, don't show up for a hike unless your YES RSVP has been accepted for you and any guest(s) that you intend to bring with you.

Please cancel if you decide not to attend so spaces will be available for others.

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I normally lead hikes that I've done before. I don't do technical climbs but some of my hikes have strenuous climbs that may require using some handholds and require good physical strength and agility. I am not a professional guide. You are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear and conditioning required.
And lastly, anyone choosing to hike with our group should carry personal medical insurance and a CORSAR (Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue) card in case of an emergency.

Just wanted to be clear that I won't be stopping at 28th and Iris unless someone else says they want to meet there :).

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
