Finch Lake (RMNP) Snowshoe

Snowshoe to Finch Lake (9912 ft.) from Allenspark Trailhead.  Looks like the last nice day for an outing before the weather turns sour.  Hopefully, there's still enough snow to make for decent snowshoeing.

Bring at least one liter of water, snacks/lunch, and appropriate clothing for the predicted weather conditions.  Bring your snowshoes.  Poles, waterproof boots, leg gaiters, windproof jacket and pants, hat/hood, warm gloves, clothing layers, sunscreen, and sunglasses also recommended.  Lunch at the lake if there isn't too much wind.

Current weather forecast for Thursday: mostly sunny with temps around 40 degrees and wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

Starting elevation: ~8970 ft.

Max Elevation: ~10,200 ft.

Min Elevation:  ~8970 ft.

Total elevation gain: ~1500 ft.

R/T distance: ~ 8 miles

This is an intermediate blue level snowshoe.  Moderate pace of 1.5-2 mph including rest stops.   Total hike time should be 4-5 hours with an approximate 1 hour drive each way to and from the trailhead.

Please read the hike description carefully and don't sign up for the hike unless you are confident you can complete the described hike (Pace, expected conditions, RT distance, total climb, and max elevation).

If anyone wants to meet us in Lyons at the PnR, be there at 9 am.  Let me know if you plan to meet the group there.

Please be prompt so others are not kept waiting.  Five minute wait for no-shows.

We do regrouping stops at all trail intersections.

Dogs: Not allowed in RMNP

Please, don't show up for a hike unless your YES RSVP has been accepted for you and any guest(s) that you intend to bring with you.

Please cancel if you decide not to attend so spaces will be available for others.

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I normally lead hikes that I've done before. I don't do technical climbs but some of my hikes have strenuous climbs that may require using some handholds and require good physical strength and agility. I am not a professional guide. You are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear and conditioning required.
And lastly, anyone choosing to hike with our group should carry personal medical insurance and a CORSAR (Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue) card in case of an emergency.
