I have a different type of meetup to suggest, and I will admit it is a shameless plug as well. But rest assured, I see no monetary compensation for this. It does have a philosophical tie-in though. Does an improvisational show imply free will, or a deterministic state? Given that one of our mantras is listen, react, and respond, you could come down of the side of determinism. You could, that is, until you witness one of our group bolt on stage as a giant, raging butterfly. Or see two of our cast slog through thigh deep phlegm en route to the refrigerator for a beer.
The improvisation group I am part of, "Gangsta Bunnies present Apocalypse Later" will be performing the next 4 Wednesdays at the Bovine Metropolis Theater in downtown Denver.
So I'm suggesting the Barstool Philosophers celebrate the survival of the Mayan Apocalypse by a night of improvisational humor. I'm suggesting Wednesday, January 16 for the meetup, but feel free to attend any or all of the shows. As far as logistics, this is a ticketed performance, $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The doors open a little after 7:00pm and the show starts at 7:30. The Bovine Theater is on Champa between 16th St Mall and 15th. There are several places around the mall that can serve as the alcohol fueling station before the show if people would like to meet somewhere beforehand. They include the Rialto Cafe, Rock Bottom Brewery, Chili's, Mellow Mushroom.
Information about the show can be found here: http://www.bovinemetropolis.com/improv/bovine/view=BOVShow/ShowID=163
Hope to see you all at the show.
