In this third class, we will focus on the Suit of Cups, and how each card relates to the various Astrological Signs. We will study the meanings and associations of the Signs and discuss how each card relates to them, and continue to see the various mystical patterns found throughout the Tarot.
Welcome to "The Tarot--Golden Dawn Style!" This 10 part class series will start out at a beginner level class, for those with little or no knowledge of the tarot. However, the amount of information given out will certainly take you to the Intermediate level quickly! We will focus on the Golden Dawn interpretations of the cards, which are determined by multiple associations-Planetary, Alchemical, Elemental, Astrological and Kabbalistic. So, this course will not only cover the tarot, but will be a crash course into ALL of those areas of study. Each week we will cover one area of knowledge, and apply it to the cards. As we go, each week will build on the previous week, and our understanding and ability to interpret the cards will grow exponentially as we go through the class.
A tarot deck will be provided to you as part of this class. We will be writing and drawing on our decks to help us learn and remember various associations, and many people would hesitate to draw on their own decks. So, I will be providing a deck to be written on, as well as to have a single set of imagery for us all to work from.
Many people do not realize that the common tarot owes much of its current form to the Golden Dawn. Arthur Edward Waite, co-creator of the "Rider-Waite" Tarot Deck, was an Adept of the Golden Dawn system, and his tarot deck was based on the symbols and cards of the Golden Dawn at the time. That's not to say the Golden Dawn created the Tarot, by no means, the tarot has been around much longer. However, many of the meanings of the cards (especially the more 'traditional' decks) draw from the original Golden Dawn cards for their imagery and meaning. As part of this class, I will bring some images of the original Golden Dawn cards, some of which have never been publicly released, that have been handed down to me by some of my teachers.
