After watching Blackfish, a theater employee informed us that Seaworld had given promotional cups to the theater. According to the employee, the theater is going to use the promo cups. I don't know of this information is true, but it shows that Seaworld is increasing its marketing efforts directly in response to the movie and that the theater is supporting the marketing effort if it distributes the cups to theater patrons.

Actually, I think THAT'S GREAT if Seaworld does this -- at least if they do it while the movie is still showing. (And if so, it's pretty stupid of them). It draws attention to the Blackfish movie itself -- and provides a very interesting conversational pretext to start a discussion about it. Most people very much enjoy a cynical angle. It's perfect. (If anyone speaks to press about the movie, don't forget to bring this up! That is, if this does turn out to happen). Let it happen! $0.02.

... P.S. if the cups DO show up, my opinion is (lisa and others might disagree), that the theater should be encouraged to have their concession staff specifically mention to patrons that the cups were provided by Seaworld in response to the Blackfish movie. This would spur more interest in the movie, which is, of course, to the theaters benefit. (And ours).

On this auspicious day (50th anniversary of the March on Washington, Dr. King), it's helpful to remember the notion, "The Arc of the Moral Universe Is Long, but It Bends Toward Justice". Meat consumption in the U.S is plummeting (like 12% in a five year period)* (And the Big Leap hasn't even happened yet). I'm so encouraged by this progress. It would have been great to see the theater full yesterday. But I am just thrilled that "Blackfish" is playing -- a lot of people will see it. (It's really hard to get people to see a documentary in theaters these days). People just hearing of the film has a lot of value in pushing awareness forward.

If you haven't see the film yet, be sure to support it. See it this week in Boulder! ... http://www.cinemark.com/theatre-detail.aspx?node_id=1696

i really enjoyed the dinner and connecting with everyone but i just couldn't sit through the movie. i hope others that don't know about the cruelty of captivity and taking wild animals out of their home to entertain humans will go and see this important documentary. and i hope Sea World goes down and fast.

OK< I just found the link to the movie playing at the Century Theater in the 29th street mall.https://tickets.fandango.com/transaction/ticketing/express/ticketboxoffice.aspx?row_count=0&mid=162083&tid=AAUNI&date=8%2F23%2F2013

I think the easiet thing to do is have everyone get their own tickets. if for some reason you can't buy your own ticket email me and i will buy it for you but tell me before noon on Friday. Otherwise, it looks pretty easy to buy tickets on line. We can all meet at Native Foods, order food and then walk over to the movie. This will sell out so get your tickets beforehand. Call me if you have questions... [masked]

    • Lisa

And yes, we will aim for the 7:20 show! forgot that teeny detail.;-)

      August 22, 2013

  • Lisa

Hi guys, I never had a chance to go to the theater but after looking on the web it still doesn't look like it is playing in boulder? i will look into this first thing tomorrow but it might make sense to buy your own tickets for the 7:20 show if rachel is correct below. i will look into this first thing in the morning and report back. if others have better info let us know in comments.

Hey everyone! I just called the theater, because I was on fandango looking for Fridays showtime & couldn't find anything. Anyway, the theater on 29th street just confirmed with me that Blackfish will not be released at century theater in boulder until next Friday, the 23rd. It is being released in Denver this Friday & will be playing at a theater called chez artiste, but not in boulder until the 23rd :-/

The http://BlackFishMovie.com/ website lists the US Screenings starting in Boulder a week later, on Friday August 16. (BTW, the website has an alert e-mail signup too). This Boulder information might not be up to date, but if it's true, I'll plan on making an evening of it then (Native Foods Cafe too). The Boulder Daily Camera republished (on[masked]) the Los Angeles Times' editorial: End the killer whale circus. [masked]) ...

"The documentary 'Blackfish' reminds us that it's time to stop imprisoning orcas in marine parks to entertain the public and enrich their corporate keepers."
