2104 January Potluck gathering with special guest, Chef Andre!

For our first potluck of 2014 we are excited to have Chef Andre do a vegan food presentation!

From Chef Andre: I have been vegan since 2006.  The transition happened over many years as I learned more and more about the cruelty to farmed animals.  I have been in love with food since I was very young, I learned this from my grandmother while visiting her in southern Mexico.  We would go to the outdoor vegetable market and the variety of produce was mind boggling.  She treated food with great care and respect.I grew up in Steamboat Springs and started working in restaurants as a teenager. I learned classical French culinary techniques through a three year apprenticeship with an Austrian Chef.  I worked in all areas of kitchens for about eight years, and then managed restaurants for about another 8 years, mostly in upscale restaurants in Boulder and Denver.  Unfortunately I was not vegan during this time.  I left the restaurant business, and have worked in nonprofit management for the past ten year. After going vegan in 2006 I experienced a culinary reawakening!  Many people believe that being vegan means that you miss out on things…  I found the opposite to be true! I was determined to not only veganize all of my favorite foods, but to explore new veggies and come up with exciting new food pairings.  I published a blog for about two years as I learned.Tofu was one of the hardest thing to come to grips with.  It took a year but I triumphed…  That will be the focus of my presentation.

Chef Andre will do his presentation for about an hour and then we will eat our potluck dishes!

Let's get together with others in the veg community to share some great food and meet new friends AND be treated to a delicious food demo by Chef Andre! I will send more details in the next few days but save the date for this special potluck gathering with Chef Andre. We will have to limit the rsvps to 45 to fit the demo in so be sure to rsvp early if you want to attend.

You do not  have to be vegan or even vegetarian to attend, but we bet you will want to be after you eat all the fabulous food that is out there (and meet the greatest folks as well).

Please bring a plant based dish (no animal products, including honey) to feed 8, with recipe card and ingredients and your own table setting and serving utensils for your dish (to cut down on waste). Feel free to call or email if you have any questions or need directions, recipes etc.

Looking forward to meeting/ reconnecting with everyone and building a great  Compassionate, Healthy and Sustainable Community! Call or email with any questions.

Glad to help last night. I love collecting "donation $$" to help defray some of your expenses Lisa. Everything helps. If we put aside something like 7 cents a day that is $2.10. People can always do their own math for donations. Just was doing a breakdown in my head. See ya soon. x0x0

Since our terrific Whole Foods tour last Sunday, I have eaten soy hot dogs (quite yummy though it took a bit to get used to) and hickory smoked Toferky (tasted just like my childhood bologna) and now have scarfed down the most scrumptious of all: Gardein's Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick'n. Upward and onward!

We had the privilege of meeting the guests you're bringing with you to the potluck at the Native Foods "Ask a Vegan" event that was held tonight. They're all absolutely lovely. We are looking forward to seeing you all next Saturday!
