Hello animal and planet loving people,
Happy World Vegetarian Awareness Month!!
It is a busy time to be an animal/ planet advocate these days! There are SO many veg activities, food developments, VegFests (i just returned from two I worked at in Portland and DC, where attendance was over 13,000 Vegcurious people), National and International conferences addressing the rising global demand of flesh (the world's first In-Vitro "meat" conference happened in Sweden last week and at the end of this month the first National Anti Factory Farming conference takes place in DC), pro-veg articles and media stories (Clinton, Steve Wynn, Biz Stone ect)), plant meat and plant milk companies experiencing hyper growth (Tofurky is experiencing phenomenal sales and they are a 30 year old company in a down economy) , the all vegan restaurant openings (vegan chains like Veggie Grill just brought on a new CEO to expand their restaurants by several hundred in the next few years and a new concept, LYFE, being rolled out by ex McD's exec is slotted to open 250 very vegan friendly chains over the next 5 years, as well ) or existing dining establishments that are unveiling vegan menus/offerings/ vegan days throughout the company (our local heroes- Udi's, Nepal Cuisine, Sun Deli as just a few examples), the growth of Vegan meetups across the nation,(VegFund is now additionally funding new vegan meetups across the country in order to foster supportive community for new, old and becoming vegans), there are screenings for films that unapologetically and scientifically promote plant based diets, with examples like Forks Over Knives , The MILK documentary, Vegucated ect, premiering to sold out crowds, Vegan doctors like Neal Barnard, Caldwell Esselystyn, T Colin Campbell ect. speaking to standing room only crowds at every stop on their book/lecture tours..and don't get me started on what "plant strong" initiatives Whole Foods is behind, I can go on and on and on; the point being: there is a surge of vegan awareness & vegan happenings to meet that awareness/awakening, and equally so, vice versa: vegan/animal rights happenings create more vegan/animal rights awareness. It t is hard to keep up/participate with it all! but I actually do try.;-)
As wonderful as all this vegan awareness is, (and it is!) and as hopeful as it is to have our numbers swelling (and we are!), by most measures we are riding a planetary titanic, and as my colleague Vic states, we have a lot of vegucating to do in order to "unfuck the world"; if we don't act quickly we are not going to miss the melting ice cap, if that is even possible at this point in our culture's insanity. The (R)evolution of a Vegan consciousness is the most important social justice movement of our time, and this consciousness and lifestyle will have to grow like wild fire to even keep pace with a rapidly growing population, animal agriculture's success in spreading factory farming to China, India and South America-(btw,if anyone speaks Chinese,Spanish, Portuguese and wants to volunteer on a very important project please contact me); not to mention the multi- trillion dollar brain washing animal agricultural complex (and all the industries that feed into it like the pharmaceutical/disease continuation industry for just one) that permeates every aspect of our culture/society and beats compassion and sanity out of us. And while I can go on and on and on with this side as well, I know it does no good to be Debbie Downer (or lisa low), so I try to embrace the wonderful aspects of living a way of life that is as sustainable and as kind (at least to animals- still working on the human part) as possible, and be a positive example for this vital way of life. In order to pursue that goal, and create a thriving and joyful, unapologetic, proud and lovingly loud Vegan community, read on for all the fabulous gatherings we have to look forward to in the next few months....;-)

Will show how to make a variety of vegan roasts the day before and of for those that want to wow their carnist families if heading home. Looking for a kitchen to borrow to do this in. Contact me via email.
Don't forget to check out the group that Travis coordinates over at http://www.meetup.com/activevegans. With all the eating we do it's good to have an outlet to burn it all off, and be shining examples of vegan vitality .;-
Video nights- People really want to do movie nights but I need folks to offer up their home to make it happen bc my TV is 5 inches tall and uses rabbit ears. You only need to fit between 10-15 folks and have a way to show a dvd or internet movie. contact me via email if you would like to host.
To the New members or "Older" members that have never come: Jump on in and meet your veg peeps. Vegans are the greatest people on the planet. Yeah, we have our issues and can certainly get in our piss poor moods- we have a lot of stuff to worry about!- but people who strive to live a life based on compassion and mercy for other beings are also some of the most fantastic people on the planet, and make up for all those frustrating carnists we love so much!;-) wink wink.
Lastly, I want to express my deep appreciation for Travis, and to all of you who provided him with feedback to keep this community sustainable and going strong. Thank you for being my co-pilot, Travis!
As always Travis and I are open to any and all feedback, input about how to make this Boulder (and beyond!) Vegan meetup community supportive of your vegan lifestyle and/or support you in your efforts to embrace a vegan life. There has never been an easier or more urgent time to embrace vegan values.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!;-)
May Peace and Peas prevail on all our plates,
