I just want to mention that I wrote a letter to the editor about not eating meat this holiday season (it appeared in letters to the editor today, November 15, at least on line). Since letters to the editor often bring out the wildest responses (one guy hysterically associated my view with human abortion (huh?), another person tried to compare what humans do to animals to animal behavior in the wild, ad nauseum). Anyway, I would encourage others to write similar letters to mine, as even though people are fond of killing the messenger when they are challenged by unpleasant facts, the more messengers, the better.
As an aside, I am not 100% vegan, but am working on it. I am therefore not trying to be uncompassionate, even to carnivores, as we all have our work cut out for us. I just felt Temple Grandin's induction into the hall of fame warranted some comment.
