Intermediate/Beginner Volleyball at Wash Park

80 degrees and sunshine seems SO much more fun than 60 degrees and constant rain!

If anyone else has a net, please let me know so we can restrict numbers as needed.

Once again I'll bring the grill, table, utensils, some brats/burgers and beer - feel free to bring what you would like to share!

I promise I won't be so obsessed with the rules this coming Sunday, if I make it out.

( continued from below //Volleyball of the Rockies Island rules for 4s volleyball. ) In short, this means that you may not receive the serve with your hands apart, you may not dink the ball over the net with your fingers, you may never set the first ball over the net, you may not touch the net or interfere under the net with the other team members, and must call out the score before serving. Serves that touch the net are good, and because there are tree branches above my net, if your serve touches a branch, you lose the serve, but to keep play going, any other time the ball touches the branches above the court, play continues without replay or fault. These rules only apply to my net. There will be other nets set up directly west of the maintenance buildings that will play more relaxed versions of the rules with 6 on 6 players per side.

  • Da-Vi'do

I will be setting up my net as usual in the shady spot about 40 yards north west of the maintenance buildings at 820 South Humboldt street. It will have a pineapple banner on the support ropes of a mustard colored net with black poles. It will only be for 4 on 4 or less number of intermediate level players. 'Intermediate' means that you must be able serve, bump, set and spike legally and successfully over 80% of the time, and you must be able to adhere to the Volleyball of the Rockies Island rules for 4s volleyball.

Hey Jill, I just recently moved to Denver and love vball, I have a team I set up through the IVP league but have been looking to play more then once a week, I did however injure my foot wakeboarding over Labor Day....is Wash Park Sand or Grass courts, my doctor won't let me play on sand for another week :( ?

    September 19, 2013

    • Da-Vi'do

Wash' park is only grass courts, and not level in many cases. (i.e. there a many holes and dips and such some places. ) We mostly play doubles or 4s on the upper level nets and 5 and 6s on the recreational nets.

      September 19, 2013

    • Jill

We have all different levels, Jeff, so if you just want to come out and ease into it (with some great people and food/drink ha ha!), or come and kick some VB butt, you are more than welcome.

The rules of the day are:
Do bring your mad VB skillz
Do bring some food/drink to share
    Do have a great time!

Do not injure yourself (what the heck happened last time?!)
Do not mention that my net is low (remember - it makes you look better!)
Do not complain about my AWESOME grill :)

Thank you Vic! We're up to 4 nets now - me, Shawn, Jenn and you. It's gonna be fun (as always!).

    September 19, 2013

  • Jenn

I would like to join as well, let me know if you find more nets. I may possibly be able to grab one if not ::)

Ooohhhhh Snapppppp whatever the hell that means. Go Irish. :-D

I randomly selected 34 people for 3 nets - if we have 35 or 36 I'm sure that would still be fine based on some people having last minute change of plans and folk arriving later.

    September 18, 2013

  • Lenka

Wait... how did i miss out, can i come anyways?

    September 16, 2013

    • Jill

Of course! I if Da-vi-do or someone else is able to bring a net I'll open it up officially for more. It's tough to know where to limit this as people come at different times and some can't make it...I took a stab at guessing 24 would give us enough for 2 nets but not too many. If anyone else has any thoughts on numbers, please let me know!

      1 · September 16, 2013

  • Jill

Until I know there is another net I'll limit numbers...

    September 16, 2013

    • Shawn N.

I will be bringing our net

      September 16, 2013

    • Jill

      Thanks, Shawn!!

Is anyone else able to bring a net?
