Cedars of Lebanon State Park
Virgin Falls Hiking
Camping with the group in Cedars of Lebanon State Park would be a must for people interested in this trip. An alternative option might be to call and see if cabins are available at Cedars of Lebanon. I have not called to check & I don't really intend to since I will be camping. If you wish to do so, you can call the reservation # at[masked] to see if there are any weekends in April where the cabins are available to rent.
This will be "car camping", which means you are sleeping in a tent, but your car is 20 feet away. FYI: The sites do have electricity and water hookups.
Making reservations: Individuals would be responsible for reserving their own campsite. The sites are $20 per night for 2 nights, and you would be able to share the cost with another person or two that you trust to share with.
Here is the Cedars of Lebanon website for reserving campsites - https://tnstateparks.itinio.com/cedars-of-lebanon
10 mile strenuous hike at Virgin Falls. The trailhead is a 2 hour drive one way from Cedars of Lebanon. The hike will take approx 5 hours. The return trip would also take 2 hours. If you aren't sure if you can hike 10 miles and keep a decent pace, I would ask that you choose another option.
Honky-Tonkin'/sight-seeing in Nashville.
Please note that check-in time for camping is 4:00 pm. Check-out time is 3:00 pm.
Camping rates are for up to 4 persons per site. Additional fees apply to more than 4 persons.
Campground Reservation Policies
Campsite fees are fully refundable for cancellations made before one day prior to arrival date. There is a non-refundable $3.00 Advanced Reservation Fee per campsite that provides for managing advanced reservations at Tennessee State Parks.
Cancellations made within 1 day of arrival date forfeit the first nights' campsite fee and reservation fee. Without prior arrangements, guests that do not occupy their reserved site by 12:00 noon the day following the first nights' reservation will forfeit all fees and the reserved campsite may become available for other guests. If you do not intend to occupy a reserved site on the first reserved night, contact the park so that we can hold the site for you
Costs & Travel time:
I created a basic template to give you an idea how much the trip could cost if you plan ahead and try to do the trip inexpensively... I'm not great at math, so double-check it for yourself, but if you could carpool with 2 others in a vehicle that gets 25mpg, share the gas costs, and also share a campsite with those 2 people, this could be a basic idea how how much the trip could cost, before food, drinks, souvenirs, or anything else that you might buy while you are in town. This also does not account for the food that you would need while camping, which will most likely be up to individuals to bring with them, and prepare for themselves.
Anyways, here's the math...
Cedars of Lebanon State Park to Virgin Falls Trailhead one way = 93 miles
@ 25 MPG = 3.72 Gallons of gas x $4 per gallon = $14.88 / 3 people per car = $5
x2 (round trip) = $10
1 hour & 49 minutes one way
Columbus, OH to Cedars of Lebanon State Park = 410 Miles 1 way
@ 25 mpg = 16.4 Gallons of gas x $4 per gallon = $65.60 / 3 people = 21.86 per person
x2 (round trip) = $44
6 hours & 22 minutes 1 way
Cedars of Lebanon to Nashville = 34 miles 1 way
@25mpg = 1.36 gallons of gas x $4 per gallon = $5.44 / 3 people = 2 per person
x2 round trip = $4 = $5 parking per person = $9
43 Minutes one way
Camping = $20 per night x 2 = $40 / 3 people = $14
$10 + 44 + 9 + 14 = $77 Total before additional expenses.
You would need to pay your driver & your campsite mates for these expenses, and they may vary depending on how many people you have in your vehicle & how fuel efficient their vehicle is. The organizer will not be taking any money directly for the cost of this trip.
April is a nice time to visit Tennessee. The average temperatures are usually about 5-10 degrees warmer there, and hopefully the rain will stay away. The trip is just over 6 hours one way.
Please keep your RSVPs updated, and only RSVP yes is you are seriously interested.
