Shawnee State Park
Hi everyone! I am planning an overnight, strenuous backpacking trip to Shawnee State Forest. The plan is to camp at the state campground Friday night and then backpack the North trail Saturday and Sunday, staying at campsite 2 or 3 overnight on Saturday. The total distance is 23 miles for the two days, so prior backpacking experience would be a plus for this trip! We can only have a group of 10 people, so registration is limited.
The Shawnee State Forest is a beautiful area. According to Backpack Ohio's website- "Shawnee State Forest, also called the "Little Smokies of Ohio", is Ohio's largest state forest, coming in at nearly 64,000 acres, or 100 square miles for comparison. Located in the heart of the forest, 1095 acres is set aside for Shawnee State Park and its elegant lodge, cabins, campground and two lakes...Shawnee's size, ruggedness and opportunities for solitude are unparalleled in Ohio, making the forest a special place to visit. The seemingly endless trees comprise Ohio's largest contiguous forest, and home for a large number of animal species--including bobcat, black bear and timber rattlesnakes, a great number of bird species and many rare and endangered plants."

We will have a planning meeting for the trip on Thursday, September 26th at 7:30pm, so please plan on making that meeting to discuss the details of the trip! The cost should be minimal for gas money and the camp site on Friday night. Please let me know if you have any questions!
