STUDY ONE PHILOSOPHER A MEETUP- 50 philosphers after 50 meetups. The first study meeup will kick off early May due to my extensive overseas travel schedule.

SOCRATES DETESTED SOPHISTS, SOPHISTS ARE NOT PHILOSOPHERS BUT PRETENTIOUS TALKATIVE TURTLES.Turtles remain turtles for a reason, they never get a chance to meet their parents after coming out of the egg shells, let alone learn anything from the parents.

If the main concern of philosophy is about 'ideas', then ideas are best understood and remembered in the form of events tied to actual historical time and personages, instead of spending so much precious time in discussions of terminology or expositions of ideas (OR BEING A PROFESSIONAL TALKING TURTLE); moral and political concepts are best presented in term of particular individuals.

Confucius(Kung Fu Tzu) was born in the year 551 B.C., the first Greek philosopher Thales, whose birth date can only be traced by the fact that he predicted an eclipse which occurred in the year 585 B. C. ( we could say Greek philosophy started around 585 B.C.). During the 6th century B.C., China was so far away from the Ancient Greece; however Philosophy study almost emerged the same time at both locations.

I am an avid reader of philosophy, my constant self mental struggle during that reading process is that Philosophy as a serious study subject contains so much knowledge about humanity ( history, science, psychology etc). There are so much reading to do before you really start to feel a grip on the subject. So what is a more efficient process to start this wonderful and enjoyable journey?

THIS IS THE SOLE INTENT OF THIS PHILOSOPHY STUDY MEETUP, LET'S STUDY ONE PHILOSOPHER AT A TIME (AT A MEETING) ALONG THE HISTORICAL TIME FRAME SO AFTER 50 MEETUPS YOU WILL KNOW 50 HISTORICAL PHILOSOPHERS. READING IS TO FIND OUT WHETHER WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO ADDRESS HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED.

Anyone interested in studying philosophy are all welcome to attend our meeting, the only condition is that you must do some reading about the philosopher we specify before the meeting ( I will highly recommend 'History Of Western Philosophy' by Bertrand Russell or' Think' by Simon Balckburn), Those who might not have time to read are still allowed to attend our meeting provided you are refraining from making speech (you can ask questions during the question time).

At last, please do respect your fellow members, the host will impose a time limit for each speaker and interruption is strictly not permitted during each time limited speech. And again a talking turtle is definitely not welcome.

So let's share our after thoughts of our reading and pool our knowledge together. Just a quick quiz to finish off the introduction.

It does not matter that his people are poor,

It only matters that there is no inequality;

It does not matter that they are but few,

It only matters that they live in peace.

Fix your mind on the way,

Prove yourself in virtue,

Direct your attention to humanity,

Raise yourself to the beautiful.

Do You know who worte this philosophic poem? Tell us the answer at our first meeting.

We kindly ask all members to observe high standards of ethics when attending our events, we have zero tolerance for bad manners. Please honor your rsvp, it is not only ethical to do so, it is also an important aspect of fine cultures.
