SF Homeless Innovation Meetup with Rob Gitin from ATC

For the July meetup we're excited to be joined by Rob Gitin, co-founder and Executive Director of At The Crossroads!

"The mission of At The Crossroads is to reach out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and work with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. Our innovative model focuses on young people who do not access traditional services and are disconnected from any type of consistent support. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us."

In addition to presenting on ATC's work and his perspectives on homelessness, Rob will also tell us about their upcoming Hiking for Homeless Youth event and their tech needs.

6:30pm - doors open (please note we're meeting at the HUB at 5th & Mission)
7:00pm sharp - talk begins, followed by QA and intros all around
8:30 - event ends

Other Updates:

We held our first hacknight at CfA last month and plan to do the next one in a few weeks (keep an eye out for the invite). For those of you who want to be involved in a more regular discussion around our hacknight projects, please join our Google Group by requesting an invite here.

Check out the 2013 SF Homeless Street Count summary report posted in the files section of the meetup group and linked here. Lots of good data in there!

Found an article on homeless innovation and want to share? Please add it to our subreddit homelessinnovation.

Hope to see you all soon,

One idea I'd like to work on is a handy brochure for homeless teens to let them know about hidden parks in downtown SF that are privately owned but required to be open to the public. They are known as POPOS and are an alternative to hanging out in more dangerous areas. There's a couple different versions of the map on the SPUR website at: (there is an app too)

Agreed Roger! I'm excited to get some folks together for the hike to help support ATC. I added it as an event to the project I'm working on Neighborland. Lots of people want to help and doing something for an org like ATC is a great first step: https://neighborland.c...
