What does "conservation photography" mean to you?

Pictures, especially the ones we take underwater, show people a world they might otherwise not know exists. Growing up as a kid in Colorado, I was obsessed with any book I could get my hands on that had pictures of the ocean. It can make you fall in love with a place you've never been, and grow up to want to protect it.

What is your favorite subject matter?

Anything underwater, but especially big things (recently humpbacks) and macro photography (recently pygmy seahorses). They present very different challenges.

What camera do you currently use?

Canon 60D with Ikelight Housing

Introduction

I'm a PhD student in marine biology at UC Berkeley, so most of my photography is underwater, which is incredibly fun but also challenging.
