Morning ,

This is very true. so much more that I've encountered and astonished that I or my siblings didn't follow their footsteps

My parents upbringing.  No matter how they chose to live their lives they made sure we didn't become dependent on the system or losers in life

I've always wanted to write about it but don't know where to start

I'm not the most productive person in life , but am content mind and soul

How did you get out of all that?   If this is a true story, you should write it up and publish it.

My grandparents and the parents and granmparents of most of my generation and the one before were "poor" if they came here as immigrants, but worked to provide their own needs.  But they never were dependent on govt and they all made better lives.  All they wanted was the opportunity to work.

What people need is a mind to work and then doors will open.  We have free schools with computers and libraries, but kids don't study, don't even take notes home and come to school late (for the attendance period so the free money will keep coming in the mail) only to socialize.

When we look at Madame CJ Walker, who only had a 3rd grade education, was the only one in her family not born as a slave and see her become a milionare because of her own ingenuity and hard work--in a time of Jim Crow, in a time when a millionaire was like Bill Gates today, we see what can be done.  John Johnson, Bill Gates, Andrew Carnegie, thousands who come from India and Vietnam and start small to worldwide businesses.....the opportunies are there for those who will work.

Franklin talked about not making people comfortable in poverty (for like stray cats, they will stay there) but DRIVING them out of it by requiring them to work.

Not only do poverty programs sustain and expand "poverty" which is determined only by dollar amts of income, not by possessions or character, they suppress the initiaitive and talents of those people they enslave.  And cheat us all of what they could be giving, as they cheat those individuals of the joy of achievement and accomplishment.

"I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Ludlow, 1824

James Madison, often called the Father of the Constitution told us his intentions. ""We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves and to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God"

(It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly no such universal power was meant to be given them. It [the Constitution] was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect." --Thomas Jefferson, Opinion on a National Bank, 1791

I partially agree .

I was born in the 70s, Fort Apache the Bronx . Where buildings were being burnt by landlords and chased tenants away.

My parents were squatters with 13 kids. My dad was the head of a gang ching-a-lings and my mom was a prostitute

Doesn't mean they didn't instill life skill lessons, for which it made me and my siblings productive individuals in society

I a community activist in East Harlem where poverty is a disease.

Because of the liquor stores, drug Programs , Phoenix housing, failing schools and it's non motivational community, which I've been working closely  with the community showing them that their past doesn't dictate their future.  kids are raised in this cycle and feel is the way of life and lost in the system

There is so much to this poverty disease. So much to say
