Julie & Julia Dinner Evening

  • Jun 30, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Meet up for a Julie & Julia Dinner Evening......We can all discuss the menu and what we will be cooking out of Julia Child's Cook Book. I don't mind hosting the event in my home, but if we all agree the venue be in my home, the earliest I can have it is on June 12th.

Unforutunately I will not be able to attend the dinner for Saturday night. I just wanted to inform you you so that there is another spot open.

Linda and everyone..All the group members here I believe have good intentions. Organizers need to really be on top of details, the meetings are in the details. Get the names of members if needed in much earlier and have a cut off confirmation so you can move forward or not...It's unfortunate to see the disappointment. I was hoping to see how the meetup had gone and expected to hear it was a great success. Thanks to David for making the effort.

Whoever commented to me - who is now a former member - obviously doesn't know how all of the meetup groups work. Yes it would be nice if everyone came who said they would come. But the reality is - that the time before - a whole lot of people planned to show up and the event was cancelled. It happens! Who cares if it is 6 people or 20? Now if it is only 1 person - then that's a whole other matter.

It is very strange to communicate with a group with no apparent leader monitoring and people quitting and then posting as former member. I sent Dave my name, and also put in my change in a timely manner. I just thought I'd take a look at the group today to see how the Julie & Julia evening turned out that was scheduled for 7/28th, and lo and behold it cancelled and the comments are back to the June 30th earlier fiasco. C'est la vie~

Sorry to read about all the disappointment about Julie & Julia eve Dave was hosting. The entire group seeming to be dysfunctional. Rather than blaming people, I just wanted to say I cancelled the Sat. 7/28 event in a timely manner, had too many things going on. There had been people who had posted they were waiting for a chance to get a place. Did they ever step up, I don't know? Dave expressed to me he didn't think I should make Julia's recipe Cream of Mushroom Soup. Would have been spot on.

Linda, if you think that Dave cancelled the event because he didn't have 20 people to divvy up the paltry $25 fee, then you have another think coming. He cancelled it because only 6 of the 22 who RSVP'd had the common courtesy to respond to his repeated requests to provide their full names (for the front desk) and the dishes they were making (for the chart he created). Dave is a serious gourmet cook who took courses at the Ritz Escoffier in Paris. Too bad he had to quit this group in disgust.

You should have had the event anyway - but charged everyone a prorated amount of the $25 (what would that be? Hmm $3 each.

Now I know why the organizers have gone AWOL. This group is a bunch of BS. Dave was very kind to try to salvage this event. He put in a $250 deposit (on top of the $25 fee) to secure the beautiful private lounge at The Bayside. About 22 of the 41 RSVP'd "Yes." Three days prior to the event, only 6 of the 22 had confirmed that they're attending. Dave had no choice but to cancel the event, after he had already put in a lot of effort and hours into planning it. So shame on all those concerned!

It never happened. Many of us inquired about time and location even up to the date of the event but no response. Totally disorganized. Very disappointing.

Thanks Linda. I'll try to post the new meetup tomorrow at 8 pm. How do I put a limit of 20 on the event? Do you know? Dave

    July 1, 2012

  • Linda T

I belong to other meetups and you can certainly limit the number of people going to an event then everyone else goes on a waiting list. So if a room only holds 20 people then the first 20 are the ones going...

Have a safe and happy 4th July.

One other idea, let's consider not posting a meetup until we actually have a DATE and LOCATION.Just saying....If the date or location changes it can be edited, but at least there would be a cohesive plan.

Amazing this is like an airplane or ship full of passengers on auto pilot. They captain got lost in the last port of call along with the first mate and the passengers are trying to figure out what to do. It's kind o funny and a little sad. It's now too hot to cook anyway. I say dine Al Fresco in a cool shady park. What about meeting up at Poway Lake? Or I have a club house, with kitchen, tables chairs we could consider if peeps want to go up to Esco.

    Hi Everyone,
I also have been looking forward to the Julie and Julia meetup, but apparently that won't be happening tonight. I just checked, and the lounge room in my apartment house in downtown San Diego can hold up to 20 people and it also has a microwave. So I propose that I post a new meetup, which I’ll call “A Julia Child Evening” for Sat., July 21 at 7 pm. My idea is to have a collection of Julia Child recipes cooked in advance. Look for the posting at 8pm on Monday, 7/2.

Kinda flakey, huh? Disappointing to not at least respond and cancel.

Perhaps this group is no longer functioning? The organizer failed to show up for the last meetup in January and has been unresponsive to members that are asking questions about today's event. Too bad, the concept is so great and there seems to be a lot of interest among the members.

I would suggest Mission Hills Pioneer Park as a wonderful place to have a picnic. If we had it on July 4th around 12 noon then we would be treated to a free summer concert from 12 -2 pm. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi everyone, I suggested the picnic but don't have an idea where the best parks are anyone have an idea suggestion. How many of you think that this meet up should just be canceled?

    June 30, 2012

    A picnic is good. Where?

    June 30, 2012

  • Charlie Freeman, Sleep S.

Let's turn it into a picnic because right now this is not a real event without a location!

I'd love to participate. Where and when?

    Thanks,

I have not attended one of these events before. How does it work? Is there a cost for food and where do you go for the event? Looking forward to meeting everyone.

  • Christine

I am interested depending on the date! Great idea!

    June 13, 2012

  • Mitch

I'm definitely interested! Of course, it would depend when. June 16 or July 7 Ok.

    June 12, 2012

  • Donna A.

Sounds good, let us know. What area are you in?

    June 12, 2012

  • Sue H.

I'd totally be interested but... it depends on when and where. June is almost an impossible month for me, so if it's a June event, I'm definitely out. I love this idea, though! Especially if there are options for a vegetarian! :)
