Home Cooking Party - A Caribbean Experience

Caribbean Cooking Meetup

Yah Man! How about a Caribbean Run A Boat!*

Let's get together for some great Caribbean food, drinks and fun. Learn about some Caribbean dishes and how to prepare them with Bruce and Kathleen Decker who sailed the seas around the world on their sailboat many years and raised 2 children in the process. The Deckers will teach us some authentic Caribbean recipes, along with demonstrating some knife carving skills, while we all work to prepare a great Caribbean dinner.

Caribbean cuisine is a fusion of African, Amerindian, British, Spanish, French, Dutch, Indian, Chinese and America. These traditions were brought from the many homelands of this region's population. In addition, the population has created many styles that are unique to the region.

If you want to learn how to sharpen your kitchen knives bring some along (and a sharpener or stone if you have one). We will start the afternoon with fritters and knife skills (on veggies).

Our menu for the evening will include:
-Papaya salad
-Jerk chicken, corn, rice
-Mango salsa fish dish
-Pineapple dessert
-Mojitos (**so bring rum instead of wine**)

*RUN A BOAT: Jamaican Rasta term refers to a feast where many people will cook and eat a big dinner.

The cooking and menu were very well planned. We each participated but didn't feel over our head. The food tasted great - plenty of lime and onion!

This was a great meetup, at times a bit frantic but in the end everything turned out perfect. Great group of people, delicious food, great house and I can't wait for the next one
