Looking for a way to share the flavors of the Northwest with the food lovers on your gift list?.....Or maybe you just want to gift YOURSELF with a wonderful local cookbook and a chance to meet the author/chef behind the cookbook and maybe taste a few of their nibbles??
From food carts to fermentation, craft beer and artisan meat, gluten-free Asian cuisine to coffee and more, local writers and chefs have created a variety of cookbooks and culinary related guides capturing various elements of Portland's unique food scene.
Join me at a cookbook party in downtown Portland and get a chance to meet the chefs and authors, who will be sharing their recipes, performing demonstrations, and serving samples of their specialties. Autographed books will also be available for sale. Last years event included such authors as Ivy Manning (food writer), Kir Jensen (pastry chef), Ashley Gartland (food writer), Laurie Wolf (food writer), Kim Boyce (chef), Sasha Davies (local cheese expert), Piper Davis (chef/Grand Central Bakery), Katherine Miller (The Oregonian Cookbook), Vitaly Paley (Paleys Place, Imperial, Penny Diner), Julie Richardson (pasry chef/bakery owner/author), Linda Ziedrick (The Joy of Pickling) and more! This year John Gorham of Toro Bravo will also be joining. Final roster is yet to be announced.
We will start our day with brunch at The Original. Brunch items run around 7.00 to 13.00 and include such things as Scratch Buttermilk Pancakes, Potlenta Cakes, Creme Brulee French Toast, Classic Belgian Waffle, Eggs Benedict, Breakfast Burrito, Chicken Fried Steak, Heuvos Rancheros, Tofu Hash, Omelets, Frittatas, Biscuits and Gravy, Burgers, Salads, and some "lighter" choices also such as stone ground oatmeal and egg white omelet.
After brunch, we will walk a block or two to the cookbook event where we will enjoy some treats (complimentary), meet the authors and possible purchase a book or two if you so desire :-). Things should wrap up about 2:00.
Fee for the event is $12.50......$10.00 will be handed back to you at breakfast. The remaining 2.50 goes toward Amazon and meetup and website fees as I don't charge a "joining" or yearly membership fee. This greatly greatly helps decrease the "dreaded no-shows/last minute cancels"....thanks for understanding!!!
