Singles: Men & Women Cooking Recipes from The Palm

THIS EVENT IS FULL AND I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE SIGNUPS.

Singles:  Men & Women Cooking Together Recipes from THE PALM RESTAURANT

See menu below

(Of course the air conditioner will be on! - so come on over and cool off.)

SUNDAY, JULY 1, 4:00 – 7:00 $30

Please pay in cash when you arrive.

Location: My home near Yale & Wadsworth. Directions will be emailed to those who sign up.

Read these (2 ITEMS) first – menu is below:

ITEM 1 - Conversation: There will be a fun ice breaker at dinner!  The cooking events include shared conversation in small groups during food preparation, more private one-to-one conversations if two guests wish to go out on the balcony which is fine!, and the group conversation during dinner. I have noticed when I have attended other meetup events that some people actually come to meetups to dominate the conversation or interrupt others a lot. Then it happened at a party I had. Please note, the cooking events are about shared conversation and politeness. The cooking event is not for people who come to talk excessively or talk excessively about themselves. Everyone has important things to talk about and share. I will ensure that the conversation is even and the guest who might be quieter in a crowd, gets to talk as much as anyone else.

ITEM 2 - Attendance: The following paragraph does NOT apply to those who have already attended one of my cooking events. This paragraph is only for those are new to the group who RSVP. I’ve done over 100 of these high-end gourmet cooking parties in my home, this group has met every month since 1999, and you should know that these cooking events for both you and me are like buying a theater ticket or planning a vacation. Every event is carefully planned and requires about 15 hours of my time. The 500 people who have attended are sincere individuals with too many positive and sophisticated qualities to mention and they take RSVPs and commitments seriously. I knew when I started advertising through the internet I would have some challenges. I had 7 women cancel within 24 hours of one party. If you have never attended one of my cooking events please note:

All of the following will result in your being removed from the group:

1) Sit on the list for days with an RSVP and cancel 72 hours up to event time

2) no shows

3) telling me you can’t attend the day of the event because you are sick, car problems, or any other reason.

Please do not call me the day of the event except for when you need driving directions, I am too busy that day. Please, no texting me ever.

THE PALM RESTAURANT RECIPES

SUNDAY, JULY 1, 4:00 – 7:00 $30

I found a really neat cookbook from The Palm Italian Steakhouse Restaurant and liked many of the recipes. So I thought we’d make them for our next cooking dinner party. Most of the ingredients are purchased at Whole Foods.

Asparagus Fritti

Creamed Spinach

Gigi Salad (has bacon and shrimp) with Jeffrey’s Famous Dressing (Homemade)

Mashed Potatoes

Blackened Chicken with Homemade Blackening Spice

Homemade Biscuits

Double Banana Cake (This recipe is from Bon Appetit, a restaurant called Baked Expectations).

Wine (one glass please, it’s not a big drinking event)

Please note - I really want stuff in the dishwasher. The stuff that is hand washed are the big pots and pans. The dishwasher is more sanitary for all the little items, silverware, and glasses. I don’t mind running the dishwasher multiple times for the event. When people hand wash a ton of stuff and lay in on the counter (takes up space!) and then ask me during the event where it goes and to put it away, I don’t want to do that during the event. So load dishwasher, rinse & stack if you must in a far away corner.

THE EVENT IS LIMITED TO 4 MEN AND 4 WOMEN. I may add 2 more spaces if we get 5 men.

EVERYONE GETS A COPY OF ALL RECIPES TO TAKE HOME

I am a volunteer and participate like everyone else and do this for the fun and joy of cooking. I spend more than I take in for the groceries and buy the best ingredients. If you want to know how much spend for an event or the website ($144 a year) just ask, I track the expenses.  So far since January 1, 2012 I have spent $360 out of my own pocket for the events, so all I ask is if you RSVP, please show up and pay the $30.

YOU NEED TO SIGN GROUND RULES (Below) THAT YOU AGREE TO HELP WITH DISHES (I'll provide you a copy of the ground rules when you arrive, please just read them for now).

************************************************************************
COOKING PARTY GROUND RULES
DISHES: Cleanup takes less than 30 minutes after dinner because everyone helps with cleanup and dishes so the kitchen is left tidy after the event. Everything but the pots and pans go in the dishwasher, all glassware including wine glasses go in the dishwasher, and we run a fast dishwasher load during dinner so cleanup isn’t too bad because everyone pitches in. When you finish your recipe prep, put your equipment in the dishwasher or in the sink.
AFTER DINNER CLEANUP: wash and dry large pans (take turns), load dishwasher, wipe off counters, put away the leaf in the table, drain dishwater, someone be a good egg and take out the trash.
PRACTICE HELPFUL GROUP BEHAVIOR: If you have downtime on your recipe, ask if other teams need any help.
WASH HANDS: at start of event and throughout the cooking process. Cooking sanitation class teaches that every time we touch anything (move a chair/shake a hand) and we are going to touch food, we should rewash our hands.
I agree to these ground rules. I am participating at my own risk and will not sue Diana Ohlsson. I understand that burns, allergic reactions or mishaps that I cause or incur will be my responsibility.
