"It was pro-crast-i-nation, I know..." Sadly, we didn't send entry in time. Maybe next year.

Pipers never had the test, so we are signed up for that... She will have another chance to try working with sheep in July, so I want to see what she is like around them...should be fun....

Cascade PWCC is offering lunch thru Karen's Kitchen at PackLeader Farm. There is a fee but includes two main dishes, salad, dessert, choice of coffee, tea, soda, or water. There are lots of Pem items to purchase (Check out the new Pem/Sheep shirt), and a great raffle. There are many Pems and Cardis at this event including the Herding Instinct Test. This is going to be fun!

    Hope to see you there,

How does an instinct test actually work? My dog hasn't been around sheep or done any herding. But if it is by 'instinct' and it is 'testing' does that mean the way it sounds?

Ooops hit the enter key too fast! It really is just an instinct test and it's fine that your pup has never been around livestock. The dog goes into the ring with you and a judge and some sheep and for the most part is allowed to demonstrate what nature is telling him to do. It is quite astonishing to watch them go into action. If you go to the AKC website and search for "AKC Herding Regulations" you can read a detailed description of the instinct test.

      P.S. I love your pup's name!

Someone told me that the instincts test for this event will be with sheep, not ducks like I was hoping. Can anyone confirm that?

Does anyone else have a dog signed up for a Herding Instinct Test on Saturday?

I hope we can all manage to connect. This will be Toby's and my first trial. I'm assuming that sometime before the date we'll get a more definite schedule of events so that we know exactly when and where we need to be. I'm really looking forward to it!

I and I'm very sure MANY others would like to meet you, Toby, Jamee, Birdee Fergus and all of the Corgis"R"Us friends that are interested enough and excited to attend. Sidney Pahre has a busy 6 mo. old, "Vicky" who is dong great with herding!

Regarding the Cascade PWCC, AKC Herding Trial on June 15-16th: If your dog is not currently registered with the AKC, you can do so via their PAL program as long as your dog resembles one of the Herding Breeds (for a herding trial). If interested, go to PAL, AKC.org - It does require a fee and 3 pictures of your dog (sideviews and head-on). In addition to being just darn good "friends" for us, many of the PAL dogs are competing in all of the performance levels - Check it out. CPWCC is holding its first AKC Tests and Trials due to requests from exhibitors at last year's testings.

"Jamee" is entered in PT - Please come and watch her - It is going to be fun!

We did this last year and it was fun although very rainy. This year your dog MUST be registered with the AKC to participate in any trial or testing, just an fyi.

"Jamee" is entered both days - Maybe she will herd the sheep this time in PT. In any case, we will have some great fun! Closing date for entries is June 3rd but Herding Instinct Testing can be done the day of (June 15-16) as long as they have openings.

Or, you can come and watch the Pems and Cardis perform and do what they were bred to do.

['m going to invite a couple of friends that are already herding. thanks for the invite!

Anybody can come to watch, no need to sign up. You only need to send in an entry ahead of time if you wanted to enter your dog. If you haven't ever seen a herding trial they are very fun to watch and there should be several Corgis entered.

Do we need to sign up to just watch?
