Pacific Northwest Corgi Picnic

  • Aug 10, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The 2013 "as official as it gets" Pacific Northwest Corgi Picnic will be on Saturday, August 10, 2013. Typical timing has the event starting at noon and running until we all run out of steam. Details will follow, but set aside the date. (And begin thinking about auction donations, and saving up to make many large bids at the auction to benefit Corgiaid.)

As always, updates on http://corgwn.com.

Lost & Found - we have a couple of items turned in that were found at the picnic. If you're missing something, from the picnic or the walk back out to your car, drop me a line and we'll see if we can reunite you with your property.

Thanks for the info Leo. Just to be clear, we don't melt (rain) but we are highly conductive electrically, which led to my question last night. We'll leave our tin foil rain hats home today!

It's clearing up in Monroe! And the weather report says 0% chance of rain until 4! Lets hope this stays true!

      August 10, 2013

  • Leo N.

For the record the picnic is (and has always been) "rain or shine" - we do live in the Pacific Northwest, after all. :-).

As someone else has mentioned throwing a towel or two in your car is always a great precaution, as is whatever "layers" you might want for yourself. We do NOT have enough covered area for the number of people (well over 100) who'll be attending today.

Thunder is the only wild card we've never had to deal with before. All I can say is know your dog and take appropriate measures should the rumblings begin. We had thunder and rain overnight (at 1am) - Dagmar was most displeased, Sam and Chester slept through it all.

Right now I'm hopeful that the weather report I saw that said "partial clearing in the afternoon" is accurate. It seems like it's trying to partially clear as I look out the window now at around 8:30.

Just a reminder - this event will be LARGE. Probably as large, if not a tad larger than last year. That means it's important for all dogs (well, humans too :-) ) to be on their best behavior.

We'll be asking that you NOT throw balls, for example, as that can quickly escalate into pack and guarding behavior with this large a crowd. (If you see someone doing so, please gently remind them of this fact and that I'd asked.)

If you're not sure about your dog, bring a leash just in case. It's still a great time, even on leash :-). There will, as usual, be x-pens for the occasional time-out and/or jail.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. We're heading off to Costco later today to get the burgers & dogs & drinks & supplies...

Leo (who's friends have already called him insane for hosting this event ... I think it's fun!)

    3 · August 8, 2013

    • Bobbie M.

Okay, but you'll have to explain to Oliver why the "Orb of Delight" is not available!

      2 · August 8, 2013

    • Bobbie M.

Also, please remember not to give treats to anyone else's dog without permission- Maddie, who is a little Pem in a cart, doesn't do well with food she isn't used to. She'll have a "Don't Feed Me" scarf (if I remember it- and I have the logo in a file if anyone else wants to iron it on to a scarf or vest.)

Wish I thought of this sooner: has anyone approached the local pet shops for donations to our auction?

    August 8, 2013

    • Leo N.

Indeed we have. One promised and never got back to us, the other offered on the spot and we have a selection of things in the auction. :-)

Just a reminder about the auction: Please bring lots of cash (or checks) and bid high (and often) on the items in the silent auction for Corgiaid. If you have items to donate for the auction please make sure that they are new (or as-good-as) and clean. Contact Jean Clements-Macak at jcmacak <at> gmail.com with information about the item, including a recommended starting bid. Not interested in any of the items? No problem – we’ll have a jar for your cash or check donation as well.

If you want to donate but don't have an auction item you can always try asking a local pet-related business to donate a product or service.
