2014 - Corgi Walk In The Pearl

Where and When the Walk Begins

The Walk begins at 10 am on Saturday, August 16, at 235 NW Park Avenue, Portland[masked] at the intersection of NW Park and NW Everett in the Pearl District of downtown Portland.

Distance of Walk

The Walk is approximately 1.2 miles in length and consists of a leisurely stroll along ma...ny streets in the Pearl. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to complete the walk, depending on how fast you and your dog wish to walk and how much visiting you and your dog would like to do along the route. The Walk is fun and interactive. Local merchants, people on the trolley, and tourists all wave and ooh and aah over the parade of Corgis along the sidewalks. Last year two of the local news channels took photos.

Hanging Out Before the Walk Begins

There is a grassy area across the street from registration on Park Avenue where you and your Corgi(s) may hang out before the Walk begins.

Both Oregon Humane Society and Corgi Rescue will have information tables there and the Corgi Club will have Pembroke and Cardigan breeders available to answer any questions you may have.

Pearl Bakery donates 20% of all purchases made on the day of the Walk to Oregon Humane Society, so please stop by and purchase a cup of coffee and a delicious treat to nibble while you walk. The Pearl Bakery is located at 102 NW 9th Avenue, at NW 9th and NW Couch Street, a few blocks south of where the Walk begins. Please tell them you are participating in the Corgi Walk.

Mid-Walk Hydration Station for the Corgis

A hydration station is set up midway through the Walk for the Corgis. It also is a popular spot for them to hang out and visit with one another before continuing on the Walk. Zupan’s Markets donates the water for the hydration station while volunteers from Corgi Rescue and Oregon Humane Society oversee the station.

Hydration for the Corgi Owners

Oregon Humane Society donates bottles of water for every registrant. These are available at the pre-registration table and in the on-site registration area.

Photographs of the Walk

Kathi Lamm of Lamm Photography in Wilsonville, OR (www.lammphoto.com) is the official photographer of this year’s Walk. Kathi took the photographs of each sponsor’s dog appearing in the calendar, and she also will be taking photographs before, during, and after the Walk.

Kathi’s first priority is to take as many informal photographs of the Corgis as possible, but you may ask her to take a photo of you and your dog(s) during the Walk as well. Several pages in the calendar will feature these informal photos. At the end of the year all of the photographs taken by Kathi will be placed on the web site.

Registration fees for the 7th Annual Corgi Walk in the Pearl:

$25 for the first Corgi

$15 for each additional Corgi or dog sibling of the Corgi

All registration monies go directly to the Corgi Walk’s two beneficiaries:

Oregon Humane Society

Corgi Rescue

As a registrant, you decide where your registration fee goes. You may designate Oregon Humane Society or Corgi Rescue, or you may divide the amount between the two organizations in any proportion.

Please see below for instructions for how to register in advance or on-site for each of the beneficiaries.

Advance Registration

If you want your registration fee to go to Oregon Humane Society, Send a check made out to Oregon Humane Society.

If you want your registration fee to go to Corgi Rescue, Send a check made out to Corgi Rescue.

If you want to divide your registration fee between the two organizations, Send two checks, one made out to Oregon Humane Society and one made out to Corgi Rescue.

Advance registration closes on August 9, 2014.

On-Site Registration

You may register on the day of the Corgi Walk. Please make out your check — in advance — to Oregon Humane Society, Corgi Rescue, or one check to each if you are dividing the fee. You may also pay in cash.

Registration begins at 9 am on the day of the Corgi Walk, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the registration tables marked “Pre-Registration.” In this location you will complete a form for our records. You then will take your completed form and registration fee to the “on-site registration” table, which is a few yards away. Both locations are clearly marked.

By signing the registration form, you are giving consent to be photographed during the walk by our photographer, Kathi Lamm. These photographs then will be used for the 2015 Corgi Walk in the Pearl Calendar and posted on the Corgi Walk web site.

Please register prior to the day of the Corgi Walk if at all possible, as it is congested on the day of the Walk.

Doggy Scarves

All dogs registered for the Corgi Walk will receive a scarf made by Corgi owner arbara Kimberley to wear during the Corgi Walk.

Advance Registrants

Each pre-registrant will pick up the scarf from Barbara at the advanced registration table. Barbara will have a list of all advance registrants.

On-Site Registration

Each on-site registrant will be given a scarf at the time they register for the orgi Walk.

The 2015 Corgi Walk in the Pearl Calendar will feature individual photographs of our sponsors’ Corgis and informal photographs taken before, during, and after the Walk by our photographer Kathi Lamm of Lamm Photography in Wilsonville, OR (www.lammphoto.com). Kathryn Hathaway of Hathaway Designs in Portland, OR (www.hathawaydesignsnw.com) designs the calendar. Calendars may be pre-ordered and mailed to you, or you may purchase them from several stores in the Portland area.

Pre-Order

On-Site -You may pre-order the calendar at this year’s Walk and have it sent to you in October or November 2014. You may pre-order with either cash or check.

    Thanks everyone for your support of the Corgi Walk. We had 387 Corgis/Corgi siblings participating yesterday. Lots of money raised for two great organizations.
