Single Page Web Applications: The Benefits & Pitfalls

Building sites using the Single Page Application approach has become the default options for many developers. In this talk we'll talk about why this trend has caught on, how you can create complete client side applications using Backbone.js hooking into any server side language, and what additional considerations exist when taking this approach.

James Sugrue is the principal front-end architect at Carma (, a startup based in Cork, Ireland that produce iOS and Android apps for carpooling. James has also recently published a book, Beginning Backbone.js with Apress, which guides JavaScript developers through architecting, using and testing JavaScript based applications.

Excellent and very useful, we are currently changing over from Sencha to Backbone and AngularJS, so this was a timely discussion

The mix of both is intriguing too - would be interested to see how they are being mixed.

We are currently using Sencha Touch, which is primarily targeted at producing native apps for mobile devices, but they can also run in a browser as a kind of single page app.
