Creative processing in Adobe Lightroom with Dan Ballard!

Change the way you think about image processing!!

Back by popular demand!!

Ansel Adams himself said that half of photography is in the processing.  That is still true today, and one of least understood aspects of photography is how to correctly edit an image to make it shine.  Internationally known travel and landscape photographer Dan Ballard has been using Abode Lightroom to edit his images since the first beta version was released 7 years ago. He now uses the program almost exclusively. Dan has a very unique approach to editing and we feel this technique will change the way you edit and think about image processing forever.

Dan always gets rave reviews about his classes and presentations and we guarantee you will go away inspired and with new tools to edit your images. This class will teach you how to create powerful, jaw dropping images and basics tips for managing and sorting files.

Dan will cover his workflow from camera to final output. Although the bulk of this class will focus on the artistic side of processing images, many tips and tricks about using the program will also be shared. This class is suitable for all levels of photographers and Lightroom users, from those who have not yet purchased the software to those that have been using it for many years.  This class is also suitable for those who prefer Adobe Camera Raw as most of the editing tools are the same.

After the class you will be dying to go back and reprocess older images....who knows, you may find a hidden masterpiece!

You can always go to www.adobe.com and download the 30-day trial if you don't own Lightroom and want to check it out so you have it for this workshop. MIke is an Adobe reseller, so you may purchase the software from him if you'd like to.

Bring your laptop with LR installed and a few images you want to work on as we will be doing a lot of hands on editing.   We may need some extra power strips, so if you have one, please bring it.

Testimonials:

"The class was great! I've spent more money on a Lightroom class and got half as much productive knowledge out of it. I walked away thinking I can now do something with Lightroom!”

"Superb!!! This was exactly what I was hoping it would be. As a long time NX2 user, Dan's demonstration made it clear to me that even as an old guy who is slow to learn that I can learn and use LR4 and enjoy it. Thanks Dan!!!!”

"Wow...What a fantastic class. Dan is very, very passionate and this definitely comes across. I learned a lot from him and can't wait to get started. Thanks Dan for all the information. Loved it!”

"That was amazing! Dan's insights into working with Lightroom 4 was very helpful. He also does a great job of teaching quite a lot in a short amount of time. Dan is an excellent instructor and I am so glad that I signed up for this presentation! I really appreciated that the majority of the time was spent on image editing. It was so helpful to see Dan's RAW images right out of the camera, and then watch him edit them. Thanks SO much, Mike and Dan, for setting this up for us! I learned a LOT!”

"Dan did a fabulous job sharing his workflow with both landscape and portraits within Lightroom. Showing his before and after photos, then recreating the same effect within the class was a benefit to me. Then repeat those steps several times with various photos helped me to really learn his workflow thus allowing me to incorporate some of his steps into my own photography. Great presentation!!”

"Excellent. Dan Ballard is an accomplished instructor who knows his Lightroom and is able to share it effectively with his audience. The class exceeded my expectations and opened new possibilities for my photography.”

Exactly the class I was looking for. Would like more. I've appreciated and admired Dan's photos for several years with an understanding that Dan primarily uses Lightroom. I've been curious as to how he gets such beautiful, bold results. While there are many resources out there for determining a virtual dark room work flow, most are pretty standard and follow the develop menu from top to bottom. After returning home, I replicated Dan's approach on some landscape photos I had already processed to do a comparison of results. In most cases it was less steps to get to a 'poppier' but realistic photo than the old process I was using. A good basis for further work to be done to stamp your own style on your work. Dan's presentation was clear and easy to follow giving me a good start to thinking about my process in a different manner and thinking about the end vision for the work.

The class was extremely useful and almost all the information presented was new to me and I will use those new techniques in my future use of LightRoom. Dan's enthusiastic manner of presenting the information kept everyone's attention and made the class all the more interesting and upbeat. Great class experience and I look forward to and highly recommend future learning opportunities with Dan. Thanks.

This class is probably the best educational investment that I have made for my photography. Dan is an excellent teacher. He combines both lecture and hands on exercises. He allowed us to practice on a few of his images. This eliminated my ability to rationalize that the photograph I was attempting to edit was the result of poor composition or whatever..... Using the tips that I learned yesterday, I went through some of my old pictures today and converted some nice snapshots into art. Thanks Dan!

This was a great class and I actually learned quite a bit. I have never heard of light room and I'm just getting started with my photography skills. I didn't realize there was so many things I didn't know yet. Thank you Dan for teaching this class! I hope to attend more of your classes.

Thank you Dan! This class was exactly what I was hoping for. Dan you are a great teacher and know just how to get someone excited about making great photos. I am definitely excited and can't wait to use everything I learned about LightRoom going forward. I also hope to take another one of your classes in the future.

Dan explained the process in a way that I learned something new and understand how to progress. Most of all I enjoyed Dan's incredible enthusiasm for his work and the work of others. My first class with Dan, but won't be my last.

I learned more about using the develop module in the first 20 minutes of Dan Ballard's class than I learned in the past year of using LR. Great class.

Dan - I currently have LightRoom 4, but considering upgrading to version 5. In your opinion, are the upgraded features worth the cost of the upgrade? If so, I think I saw posted that you are an authorized Adobe/LightRoom vender and can download at the class?? Is that correct or (pending your recommendation) should I download version 5 from Adobe website prior to class? Thanks.

    March 13, 2014

    • Dan B.

Hi Rick, that is a tough question. As someone who uses lightroom everyday, yes, they are small but useful upgrades. That said, I didn't update my laptop to 5 for months and didn't even notice when I used it. There will not be anything taught in the class that you can only do on 5. So eventually you should upgrade, but no rush. I know Mike was an Adobe vender and I assume he still is. I would contact him when you deiced to upgrade.

I have been WAITING for this class! My lightroom is on my desktop though. Is there anyway to work around this?

    January 21, 2014

    • Dan B.

Hi Sherrie, I am not actually sure about that. I know that you can normally bring a guest that is not a member, so I assume you can with this as well, you would just have to pay for both I'm sure.

Sherrie. I suggest that you go to the Adobe website and download the trial version for your laptop. Its the same as the full version of LR, but expires in 30 days. It would at least work for the class.

Dan, I saw that you are teaching a class in line Tree early in Feb. are these classes going to be identical? I'm evaluating which to attend as I live in CS.

    • Dan B.

Hi Tess, they are a little different. This class will focus completely on Lightroom editing, while the other will be half lightroom and half composition. The other class is sold out already however so your decision is easy:) Thanks! I hope you can join us.

I am totally psyched about seeing this class being offered from a professional at such a reasonable price. Can't wait!

I'm glad you are excited Keith! I am looking forward to it as well!

I don't have a laptop, so can I bring my iMac instead? I'll sit off to the side or in back so as not to block anyone's view.

    January 21, 2014

    • Dan B.

Hi Don, yes that would be fine. Not a problem. I hope you can join us!
