The Business of Stock Photography & Signing Up with Your 1st Stock Agency

• Do you want to make money with your photography?

• Do you want to create a home based business that you do almost anywhere?

• Have you ever thought about getting into selling stock images, but don’t have a clue how to get started?

• Have you ever wondered what it takes to sell your images with stock agencies?

• Did you know your iPhone and Android phone images can be sold on stock agencies?

The 1st part of the session we will discuss the business of stock photography, what exactly is a stock image, who are the buyers of stock images, how you can take your images and make a home based business. The business of stock photography continues to change, as technology changes. Many agencies now accept iPhone and Android phone images, through app based portals from mobile phones.

Don’t be fooled, like any other business, the business of stock photography in NOT a get rich quick endeavor. So if you are thinking that uploading 100 images, is going to pad your bank account, then this business is not for you! This business will require time shooting, shooting images in a different way. processing, titling, keywording and uploading your images to agencies you have been accepted as a Photographer Contributor. Like any business, you get out of it what you put into it, AND YES, it is possible to make money in stock photography!

We are going to spend the 2nd half of the session getting you up and running on an actual Stock Photography agency. I will walk you through:

• Getting registered as a Photographer Contributor

• Setting up your payment options

• Tour of important pages/screens

• Tips and tricks to help make you more successful

By the end of this session you will have submitted your images into the approval queue to become a Photographer Contributor on your 1st agency! I want you to jump right in and get moving selling your images. Future stock classes and outings I teach will help you build on this first experience, so as I share with you information you can apply your new knowledge to a "real world" scenario!

GET READY!...Time to take all those beautiful images you have and MAKE SOME MONEY!

YOU WILL NEED YOUR LAPTOP COMPUTER AND 20 IMAGES to upload during this session! Images must meet the following criteria:

• IMAGES 300 dpi

• Images must be photographed with a minimum 6 Megapixels camera

• Images must ONLY be in JPEG file and in minimum 80% quality compression

• Saved in sRGB color space • Images must NOT contain any company names, product names, date or trademarked designs

• Images must NOT contain recognizable brand named products

• JPEG images must NOT be bigger than 20MB

• Do not put copyrighted keywords into description or keywords field, not even name or brand of camera used to take the photos

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A LAPTOP COMPUTER: I will be providing detailed handouts, so you can follow along and take notes, so you can do this when you get home!

SPECIAL NOTE: To be successful in this class you need to have BASIC COMPUTER and IMAGE PROCESSING SKILLS! We are making the assumption that you know and shoot in CAMERA RAW, how to get your images from your camera to your computer and apply edits!

I have lived in Colorado for about 21 years now, I am proud to make it my home. I am a Marketing/Graphic Design professional who has worked my entire career helping individuals and corporations create impact with their marketing campaigns. I am very passionate about helping people and companies learn how to generate buzz about their products and services, especially these days when budgets and economic resources are always under fire. When people ask me what I do, I often chuckle and tell them I am an Impactologist! Naturally they ask “what the heck is an Impactologist”? It’s simple, as I stated above, I practice IMPACTOLOGY: The Art of Creating Impact!

My entire career, I have always been on the buying end of the stock photography world. I have vast knowledge and many years of experience, in the purchasing of images, for a wide range of usages in marketing campaigns, collateral and various other photographic scenarios. I have come to know, that the purchase and usage of photographic images is not only big business, but also a very misunderstood business by most people. It wasn’t until I began to sell my own images, and learned the struggles photographers have when embarking on making a living with their photography. THERE IS SOOOOO MUCH TO KNOW, about the licensing/purchasing of photographic images. This is one of the reason why Taking Stock Images Photography was created, to assist photographers in learning about the in’s and out’s of the business of selling your work.

As of April 2014, I have 18,309 images on line, across 6 different stock agencies. I continue to learn more and more about the world of photography, and my stock photography portfolio continues to grow in size and income! I continue to make Taking Stock Images Photography a community of photographers who are not only passionate about their work, but assist them in learning about how to create a home-based business, that will serve them now and down the road when their full time employment ceases. It seems these days, our world is in a constant state of change, and creating your very own home-based business can become the one thing you control and create into your very own empire. This business is not an easy one, and it will require time, effort and “sweat equity” on your part. But the sky’s the limit, you CAN create a business with something you love and are very passionate about. Looking forward to meeting you soon, and helping you learn about the world and business of stock photography!

Looking forward to this class. I considered becoming a stock photographer many, many years ago but was afraid of the commitment they wanted me to sign that I would produce[masked] salable images a month and my initial submission would be 500 images. I was surprised we might be able to get started with only 20 images.
