Lightroom 4 | Online Event

Join famed photographer, radio host ( and author of Build a Better Photograph, Michael E. Stern for an introduction to Lightroom 4. This is an online event and we will record for you to playback & practice.

Lightroom 4

Lightroom is THE premiere tool for any serious photographer. Many people ask me the difference between Lightroom & Adobe Bridge, to keep it simple, the core difference is that Lightroom uses a database for image searching, cataloging and organizing, where Bridge builds thumbnail caches. In english, that means for mass amounts of images Lightroom is very fast where Bridge can make you wait. Both use the Camera Raw 7.x plug-in and Adobe has made some radical improvements with CS6 and Lightroom 4.

Key Features

  • Powerful Camera RAW Support
  • Highlight and Shadow Recovery
  • Photo Book Creation
  • Location-based Organization
  • White Balance Brush
  • Enhanced Online Sharing Integration
  • Email from the Account of Your Choice in Lightroom

It was fun learning about Lightroom 4. I have never worked with Lightroom before. So it was all new to me. I was intrigued by the fact that you can edit photos as well as use the program as a database. So it seemed to combine Bridge and Photoshop features in one program and yet be more space efficient on the hard drive than Bridge would be. Still confused about the program. I just downloaded it and plan to explore it some. I was interested in it since I had heard much about it.

I really appreciated our photographer sharing his workflow through Lightroom even though he seemed a bit unprepared, still very grateful for his time since he is very busy with his project.

I could not see most of the pictures. Most of them show a box with a + at top
    How can I fix it?

I am still on 3.6 Lightroom but will upgrade with the new computer I am getting soon. There are some really cool new features.

Over all very good. Not sure Michael picked the best photos for examples to demonstrate the new features of Lightroom 4? He showed, but did not stress that Highlights and Shadows are a great new feature (vs. 3 has Exposure and Fill that effects the entire photo).

Kelly gets kudus for her technical IT skills, keeping the black screens off and audio gaps to a minimum. Learned a lot. Thanks!

The speaker, while very knowledgeable seemed nerves and not quite prepared. He could not make his teaching points work on his computer.

    To All,

I had a bit of a brain lock near the end and forgot the B4 and After toggle when making changes to a file....When you want to toggle the file B4 the edits and after...hit the back slash key. If you want to have bot hon screen in a vertical orientation hit the Y key. If you want a horizontal orientation use the opt/alt and Y key.

    Sorry about that folks....(:())

Thank you Kenneth for your comments...I've been working on this presentation for several days and have come up with numerous practical tips. As usual software does and doesn't do as depends on your installation process, OS environment and version..RAM..Storage..understanding…ability to learn new concepts, etc.

I'm sure this will be worth your time. And we're giving away two free copies of our sponsors newest offering: a complete A-Z LR4 training series.

    Hello All,

I will be showing things in LR4 that will help with your understanding of how files can be processed, organized and output. Metadata is a key component of this along with preference and catalog settings.

Do let me know what other areas of this app I can review for you. I don't know everything but I should be able to answer a lot of your inquiries.
