Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk (see link below)

YOU MUST SIGN UP HERE:
http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/san-jose-ca-united-states/

We were approved again this year to host a chapter of this worldwide event.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and comments.

We are doing a historic walk of downtown San Jose, beginning at Peralta Adobe, the oldest structure in San Jose. We will meet a few doors away at B2 (Bellano) Coffee to gather together and get our scavenger hunt lists.

Peralta Adobe

We will proceed to Peralta Adobe and possibly a tour ($5 fee), then move on to our next location. Sally will choose a handful of historic sites within the vicinity for us to photograph.

This event is open to ALL - I use my iPhone because I love iPhoneography. So bring your professional camera gear, your point-and-shoot, your Polaroid. It doesn't matter - what matters is that we have FUN.

I'll scope out parking in the next few weeks.

Still putting together the list of historic sites, but here are some architectural gems in the area:

Late 19th-century buildings
Oddfellows Building, 1883 (Italianate)
La Rosa Pharmacy, 1870
Letitia Building, 1890
Security Building, 1892 (Romanesque Revival)

Oddfellows Building, San Jose

Early 20th century
Landmark Square, 1907
Bank of America building, 1926 — San Jose's first skyscraper, at thirteen stories
Jose Theater (Mission Revival)
"El Paseo" shopping block, 1920s (Spanish Colonial Revival)

I live in crime-ridden Rose Garden area of San Jose (next to downtown). I had the police come today to pick up a loaded gun found a block away. All the break-ins around here are scary. Stuff is happening all over.

I taught in that area for 9 years and never had a problem. So much history in that area.

May I suggest Downtown Oakland....? Besides better weather, there are many architecture gems in walking distance and a new sculpture garden and Lake Merritt, with an incredibly modern cathedral.

It's been my experience that downtown Oakland has a lot of beautiful things to see. Thanks for the suggestion!

There are beautiful spots there so if no one else wants to go Howard, I will gladly join you sometime for a photowalk!

Great plan Sally. B2 coffee is amazing. I've done the Adobe before and it is really cool. San Jose has lots of great architecture and hidden gems. Start time works for me too.

SCU has a gorgeous campus. Mission Santa Clara is there. Rose garden, wide range of buildings. Historic adobe wall. Beautiful landscaping.

That sounds really amazing. I'll consider it Kim. Thanks for the suggestion.

Aren't there already walks scheduled in SF? Since we are the San Jose group, I'm with Dave and would rather stay closer to home base.

    1 · August 20, 2013

    • Sally C.

Hmm Georgia, you're not happy with the start time and you're not happy with the locations I am proposing. Are you ok with the date???
