Hi there I'm Richard Brook founder of Creative Yoga London - London's fastest growing and most exciting yoga company and meetup. What we do here is unique, always has been and always will! It's born from community, has grown with meetup and we include social and connection events as part of our ethos and schedule! You are what makes us.
Here, as well as getting your wellbeing kicks with immensely talented teachers and an eclectic range of classes, events and workshops you also get chance to build your community and your social life, be part of the most fun and original events like Social Yoga Tuesday's & Yoga Raves and even give your dating life a kick with amazing events like Yoga Dating. (Award nominated at this years UK Dating Awards!)
Although we provide amazing depth and quality in our classes, we absolutely pride ourselves on being accessible to both newcomers and experienced yoga students as our common denominator is connection and bringing people together, not about how trendy your yoga gear is or how flexible you are.
For us, connection is at the Heart of who we are. Yoga is all about what brings us wholeness, and you know what? Going to a yoga class at most London studios and walking out without batting an eyelid at the AMAZING people who you've just been in the class with doesn't work for me. That's why my events have been such a hit on meetup. Over the 2 years or so I've been building Creative Yoga London, I've got as much from meeting the great people who come to my classes as any other aspect of the project. You just need the catalyst to say hello. We are it!
Connection with other people IS also a level of the unity we need as human beings to be whole, which is what Yoga is all about! So in our weekly schedule we always have Social Yoga Tuesdays (and often more events) where you get specific chance to meet the other people who rock your wellbeing world!
Creative Yoga London attracts a massive range of people - from total newcomers wanting to give a more conscious (and healthy) way of life a go, to experienced yoga students who are interested in building a sense of community alongside their yoga practice. And having some fun at the most cutting edge yoga project in London.
So this is what we have coming up at the moment!...

This includes the flagship Social Yoga Tuesdays, Yoga Dating, Therapeutic Movement with Mayan, Eco-therapy, Body-mind workshops....EVERYTHING!!
The full schedule of what we presently offer at Creative Yoga London is listed below! (And please note I don't list all the yoga classes I currently run on the meetup group as I think you would want to kill me for the amount of event notifications you'd get sent!)
Social Yoga Tuesdays! (Class followed by a social) Iconic London Feel-Good Event
7.30pm Every Tuesday
This event is great if you've never tried yoga but fancy giving it a go and combining it with some social connection! The yoga I teach is suitable for all :-) And as far as I know this is one of the few (perhaps only) yoga meetup which isn't just a class, but instead aligns more strongly to the meetup ethos of trying to bring people together. Look out for special guest teachers as well as the core Creative Yoga Team at this one!
It's also a great event if you're a yoga fan who thinks the experience could be way better if you actually got to talk to some of the people you've been in the class with! Meeting people from the relaxed feel-good place that Yoga brings you too is a massive part of what this group is all about.
Yoga Dating (class followed by a social) Singles Connection Event.
7pm Alternate Sundays
Award nominated and extensively featured in National Media. This event rocks if you're single, and you fancy meeting someone of the opposite sex in a much more authentic, relaxed, heart openingand creative setting than normal. Certainly makes achangefrom noisy nightclubs, tense coffee or pub dates, asyouget a much more authenticimpression of someone at these fabulous events.
The classes also happen to be immensely fun, great for your personal growth and generally nourishing whether you actually meet someone you're attracted to or not! They educate about the different levels of connection we need as human beings to thrive - connection with yourself, connection with another person, and connection with the bigger group as a whole andinclude partner, humandala yoga and connection exercises. Seen on Sky News, ITV2 and nominated for Most Original Dating Event at the UK Dating awards! Don't miss out!
Vinyasa Flow with Mayan Patel
7.30am Mondays (Rocket Launch Your Week!)
7.00pm Monday and Thursday
The uber-talented Mayan Patel has fast become one of Creative Yoga London's most loved teachers. We only have teachers here who have a special affinity to connect people together and Mayan has just that! His more 'Yang' Vinyasa flow class provides the perfect compliment to Richard's more Yin (softer) Dru Yoga and Camila's embodied Hatha, and is just great for those of you who need a damn good stretch!
Suitable for all. Mayan is also a specialist in Embodied connection and movement - check out his Therapeutic Movement Event below!)
Dru Yoga with Richard Brook
Monday's 8.00pm, Thursdays 8.00pm (60mins)
Dru Yoga is a more gentle style of Yoga (a more Yin style of Yoga) suitable for all. But it's power lies in it's subtlety - it enables the body to relax, release and unwind by removing subtle energy constrictions in the body and create a sense of heart warming wellbeing which is naturally conducive to feeling great! And great for those of you who like deep, deep, relaxation!
Yoga and Therapeutic Movement with Mayan
This session is perfect for anyone wishing to work more with embodied, authentic and spontaneous movement. Yoga is a fantastic practice, but on one level it's purpose is to keep our body flexible so we can move with the rhythms of life as they engage us. In these sessions Mayan guides you into connection with your body to help facilitate this spontaneous, interactive and authentic movement.
These sessions are great for both experienced Yoga students wanting to work on their non-structured movement, and also with newcomers keen to explore movement in a new, non-prescribed light. They also tend to attract dancers for similar reasons - from classical backgrounds keen to give their body back over to it's spontaneous movement and also those familiar with practices such as the 5 Rhythms wishing to further deepen their bodily awareness.
Meditation and the Body-Mind Connection; Richard Brook & Michael Arnold
Alongside the more social events I put on with my team, we're also a collective of experts on meditation and the body-mind connection. Myself (Richard Brook) and Michael Arnold are both leading 5 Elements Acupuncturists with a massive amount of experience in Meditation modalities.
Michael focuses in particular on Presence and Stillness, and I work a lot with the Body-mind Connection. Wednesday at 6.30 is the time you'll find us sharing our wisdom is these educational and experiential workshops.
Eco-Therapy with Julia Lay (Exclusive)
Clinical Psychologist Julia Lay facilitates a unique workshop exclusively for Creative Yoga London; Most of us have experienced the sense of wellbeing that can come from spending time in ‘nature’. We know intuitively that time amongst plant/wildlife and in open spaces is good for us, and the research is also clear on this. Eco-therapy is about spending time in natural environments in a particular way, that deepens our connection with nature and ourselves, maximising the benefits we derive from our time outdoors.
This workshop will take you out into a local natural area and through some simple exercises as a group and individually to deepen your appreciation of the natural world and increase your sense of connection and presence.
Other Ridiculously Creative Yoga Events (such as Yoga Raves, Yoga & Dance Movement Therapy Picnics!)
As and When!
One things is for certain! The creative process continually evolves and changes and I'm sure it won't be long before the next unique project emerges! Recently I organised a series of sell-out Yoga Raves featuring 3 different yoga teachers - all teaching to their individual style and accompanied by music of their favourite genre played by a DJ.
In addition to that we have a sound healer providing the backdrop to the final relaxation. These were all followed by a social of course!
Yoga at Events such as Morning Glory - Rave Your Way into the Day!
I'm super lucky in that I get to teach my super creative yoga at other super creative events like the Morning Gloryville Raves in East London.
It's great fun when I teach at an event like this as it often means a day out for people from the group who want to come along and check out what we are doing and meet loads of other great people along the way. Seriously recommended!
Yoga and Dance Movement Therapy
We've also had Yoga and Dance Movement Therapy Picnics in the park with the amazing Camila Ganc.
Camila is away in her native Brazil at the moment, but when she's back we'll be putting her phenomenal range of talents to good use. As well as teaching Dance Movement Therapy, Camila also teaches Yoga, Tai Chi, and Alexander technique. On top of this she's also an amazing Body Therapist practising both Traditional Massage and Shiatsu Therapy.
I'm exceptionally fortunate in that I organise some incredibly potent and energising yoga and wellness retreats. It's not every day you get to concentrate together so much holistic talent, in some of the most beautiful locations. These retreats are also about much more than yoga - we have at least two teachers at each retreat and different workshops - Meditation, Body-mind connection, Movement Therapy and connection with nature workshops. We also take trips and go for meals at local restaurants. In addition there are a host of different therapies on offer - acupuncture, massage, energy work and fantastic on site facilities - Sauna, Hot Tub, Swimming Pool.
Check out Moinhos Velhos, Portugal - location of our last retreat!
The style Richard teaches is suitable for all abilities, ages, fitness levels and incredibly relaxing and great for blitzing stress! My colleagues who also host events, Camila and Mayan provide variety with their Hatha and Vinyasa flow. In addition I'm an expert at teaching yoga that connects people, such as partner and humandala yoga - which I often incorporate into classes when appropriate.
Dru yoga works to strongly to boost your Heart energy so you feel great - which also comes with the added side-effect of making you radiate a greater presence and feel more connected and animated - great for meeting other people. So that's why after classes we take our positive feel good energy for an easy drink and social.
