Skeptical Readers - Bookclub

Let's read a book and have a discussion!

This month's book is The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture by Darrel W. Ray. The book is available on Amazon

Dr. Darrel Ray, psychologist and lifelong student of religion, discusses religious infection from the inside out. How does guilt play into religious infection? Why is sexual control so important to so many religions? What causes the anxiety and neuroticism around death and dying? How does religion inject itself into so many areas of life, culture, and politics?

I look forward to this discussion tonight. FYI, when I googled for more info, I found there are 5 books with this title "God Virus". http://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=god+virus

Thanks. The video you posted was very intriguing about controls (via guilt, sex, and death). I knew about those already, but had not structured my thinking that way.

Ughhhh. I would love to go but, as always, I'm working that evening.

Can I put in a plug for God is Not One by Stephen Prothero for a future book club meeting.

Also, could you list the other books that were suggested. I would like to read some of them even if we do not pick for the book club but I cannot remember all the titles.
