What is your stance on religion?

I stand with Hans ("God is a meaningless question") Reichenbach, whose book, The Rise of Scientific Philosophy, I first read as a student in a philosphy course taught by his wife, Maria Reichenbach. My earliest rational convincing influence - to reinforce the emotional feelings from early on about the mendacious nature of religion. Exposed to Lutheran teachings and was confirmed at the age of fourteen. Why am I doing this, I wondered. Certainly passages in Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man helped form critical feelings. Then the witings of Bertrand Russell. More recently, I've enjoyed the writings and YouTube discussions by the late Christopher Hitchens. Agree with Peter Boghosian's "Faith is pretending to know things you do not know." Peter was actually instrumental in establishing a class at Portland University on Atheism. What a concept!

How did you hear about our group?

I was a member of a similar group in Fort Lauderdale. Then, sought, and easily found, same in Orlando.

Retired medical librarian who has been an atheist since taking philosophy courses at LACC in my early twenties. Prior to that, vague, but strong feelings that there was a mendacious quality to religion and the followers I was exposed to.
