Q: Why is group membership by approval only?
A: This prevents spam on our message board. It also encourages members to answer profile questions so that we know a little bit about their interests and experience with crocheting or other crafts.

Q: Are there any fees to participate?
A: There are no membership dues. However, some events are held at venues that have entrance fees (i.e., Stitch and Pitch) that will require payment to participate in those specific events. Otherwise, please remember that most of our venues are places of business that depend on customers. We should make an effort to support them so that we are welcome to meet there again in the future.

Q: Why are RSVPs important?
A: It is a common courtesy to RSVP as soon as possible after an event has been posted and to keep your RSVP up-to-date. While it is understandable that things come up last minute, please take a moment to update your RSVP as soon as possible after your plans change. Accurate RSVPs are crucial to event planning. It is very embarrassing to ask a venue to reserve 10 seats and then only have three people show up. It's also very uncomfortable when more people show up than expected and we don't have enough seats. As our group grows, it is sometimes necessary to limit the number of attendees at an event. In this case, it is especially important to keep your RSVPs updated so that someone else can attend if you find that you can't. Please note that repeated no-shows without sufficient explanation could result in removal from the group.

Q: What are the participation requirements?
A: To keep our group active, members are asked to participate in the group as often as possible and no less than once every three months. Examples of participation include: RSVPing (even a 'no' RSVP counts), posting to the message board, answering polls, and attending events. Members that have been inactive for more than three months will be removed from the group.

Q: Are children welcome at the NoVA Crocheters Meetups?
A: These meetups are intended to create a relaxing environment where adults can get together, socialize, crochet, and take a break from family obligations. As such, it is not an appropriate venue for children. Please make alternate arrangements for your children.

Q: What is a private event?
A: Events held at a group member's home are considered private events and are subject to additional limitations as defined by the host. As Organizer, I strongly encourage that these events be limited only to those members who have attended at least one regular event previously. This is for the host's personal comfort and safety since they will have to provide their home address to the attendees.

Q: How can I host an event?
A: If you would like to organize an event, please provide me with the details (date, time, location, etc.) and I will post the event to the group, identifying you as the organizer. As an organizer, it is important that you contact the venue in advance for their permission and to make reservations; ensure the area is left reasonably clean; and, when appropriate, thank the venue for allowing us to meet there.
