Flash help request: text, masking, and scalability

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know if there's any software or method to make nice,
crisp-looking text that doesn't get compressed or blurry when imported
into Flash? I want text with effects (a glow), which Flash can't
provide. I made glowing text in Fireworks and Photoshop, but when I
import it into Flash, the text gets auto-compressed and looks blurry,
especially when the page is scaled up.

Here's my page-in-progress:
http://abbygoldsm...

The menu text is crisp (made in Flash), while the
art.ABBYGOLDSMITH.com text at the bottom is blurry, because I made it
in Fireworks in order to get the bevel effect.

A few other questions -- please help!

I'm trying to figure out how to make everything outside the 550 x 400
field (outside the yellow frame) invisible. I need to mask the excess
palm fronds. My initial attempts at a solution didn't work; I tried
adding a black box over the excess palm fronds, and I tried messing
with the HTML. Nothing works, but I'm tired; maybe I'll figure out a
solution tomorrow.

Also, I want the HTML footer at the bottom of the page to scale along
with the embedded Flash display. The only solution I can think of
(which I haven't tried) is to make the footer Flash as well. Then
I'll need to figure out how to display two Flash things on one HTML
page. But is there a better solution?

I'd like my pages to scale for people who view it on different
platforms, such as the iPhone or a large monitor. I'm considering
making other pages on the site larger than 550 x 400, as the main menu
is. Do you think that's a bad idea?

Thanks for any help, and Happy Halloween.
~Abby
