Sultana Downrigging Festival Saturday November 2

Join us for a carpool trip to the historic seaport of Chestertown, MD, for the Sultana Downrigging festival. This is a great time. There will be at least a half dozen tall ships, including the Pride of Baltimore II, Kalmar Nyckle, and Lady Maryland. They will participate in an afternoon parade and you can ride on one of these historic vessels for $25 to $55 (you must make a reservation in advance to sail on one of the Schooners-check the website for details).

There will also be other historic skiffs and buyboats and a lot of activity in the harbor. In addition to the boats, there will be concerts, displays and fireworks after dark.

We will meet at the Belair Rd Shopping center just north of I 695 behind the Bank of America at 8:00AM and carpool to Chestertown. It is about a 2 hour drive to Chestertown. We will return late, probably around 11:00PM. If you are willing to be a driver, please let us know.

For more information on the festival, and to reserve a spot on the ships, go to www.sultanaprojects.org

Breakfast at the Lemon Tree was yummy & the conversation & fellowship was great. When Diane & I stopped after our city hike in late afternoon to rest and get a snack, their desserts were excellent. The Pam Ortiz Band concert had all sorts of great sea & water songs--Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Lyle Lovett, David Wilcox, plus traditional chanties and The Sailor's Hornpipe were some of the composers & types. It was sold out with SRO. Two local and published poets read works they wrote for the festival. A fun addition was a performance by the college's ukulele band. It was only $10. Fireworks we glimpsed through the rain as we left were fun. All in all a very long and great day.

I've always wanted to visit Chestertown. I do think I pressed the incorrect button about carpooling. I prefer not to drive. Would like to ride with someone and chip in for gas, etc.
