RE: [css-56] Meetup Renewal is due Today - Can you donate?

The meetup costs are $72 every 6 months, so  it would be $144 a year.  (Rodger, I don’t know where you get the 3 meetup groups, I’m only organizing this particular meetup group and that’s the cost.)       I’ll go ahead and pay for the $72 renewal, but it would be nice if I had some help.  That’s why I asked the group.   (I am a long-time web hosting firm also and I know we could host elsewhere, but Meetup is the best for this group.)

Cheryl has done a great job with organizing all the Adobe meetings. Someone said we haven’t scheduled meetings. But, we have had several online meetings in the last 6 months. I really think the group should meet at a physical location once every few months to get to know each other.  Sometimes we all get too busy.    As I said earlier, I would like to work on a CSS workshop for next month.  And I’ll be getting with Cheryl and any other co-organizers that can make a planning meeting the first week of November.

To say that 372 members paying $1 each would cover the annual cost of a meetup + "some to spare" is rather disingenuous.  An organizer typically pays $12/month (for 6 months = $72) for 3 meetup groups.  I call that a lot more than "some to spare".

Having said that, I agree with all the arguments for staying with Meetup - but please, let's get real about the actual Meetup costs.

Bryant,

Thank you for the offer but there are several reasons why this group is kept on meet-up even though many of our members are "in the business" and have servers as well as development skills.  Managing this group takes more time than you might think which is one reason that there have been change in leadership several times in the last few years.  In addition, meet-up has a following and tools to make it easy for perspective new members to locate us. That discoverability is one of the primary ways this group gets members. We currently have 372 members. If each member contributed $1 we would have more than the annual cost of a meet-up with some to spare for some giveaways or in person events.

Hello Ingrid and to all...

I know this would help... but I also know that what I am about to suggest might ruffle some feathers.

I am a graphic designer / web developer, who also owns a web hosting company.

I would be willing to donate web server space  and development time... so that this group can have its own "fully social website."

For This group, that would translate...into  Unlimited Flexibility, Unlimited Growth... and best of all  ZERO Cost per month!

I know that this could be helpfully so my only question is... if this could be of interest to the group...

Please feel free to reply back to me directly
