2013 Walk Against Hunger

May I suggest another "giving back" event? This walk will benefit the CT Food Bank. There are four locations across CT, I've chosen the Waterbury location. As with Kevin's suggestion for the Walk for Autism Speaks, it is also at Library Park. Registration is required. We can enter as a team or individuals.  For the full scoop go to http://www.ctfoodbank.org/connecticut-food-bank-news-events/walk.

It was great to be part of something that's bigger than us, Good walk, great company.

I want to thank those folks who came out for today's walk and especially for making a donation to a wonderful cause. Even though it was a sorta gloomy day, it did not dampen our spirits. Stimulating conversation was had as we literally "pounded the pavement" of downtown Waterbury. And even though our small group split up at times, we always managed to coalesce around the next corner. Thanks again and many blessings!

Hi guys, sorry I won't be able to attend today... Don't wait for me!:)

Library Park is an inner city gathering place for illegal activity after dark so use you best judgement with regards to your feet. I'll be shoeless but I'm accustomed to city footin' and the perils it brings. Also protect your valuables both on your person and in your vehicle.

Good morning and thank you Larry for working on this. Library park is right off exit 21 west of route 84. At the bottom of the exit start looking for parking. The municipal lot at the base of the exit fills quickly but there is on street parking and a garage if you take the first available right after exiting. Facing Shamrock restaurant look for a tall wall to the left, that is Library Park. Walk to the staircase at the corner of Meadow and Grand and we can meet at the top of the stairs. I would check in if you are early and please call if you won't be coming. I expect this to be a pretty large and possibly chaotic event, though manageable. This will be a good opportunity to see the newly renovated City Hall, it's really something special

Joanne, I think the actual walk starts at 2 so we should have plenty of time even if someone's a little late

You are correct, Kevin, the walk does begin at 2:00. So a meet time of 12:30 should be fine. Thanks again for coordinating the "meet spot". Looking forward to seeing the group again. Welcome... new members, and thanks for joining us on this walk.

The walk begins at 1:00pm so why don’t we plan on meeting near the registration booth around 12:30/12:45. I don’t know exactly where it’ll be located in the park, but I’m sure it’ll be evident when we all get there. I agree, we should walk together- perhaps along with your sister’s team (if they like to). What’s the name of her team? It sounds like you gathered a good sized group, there Larry. It should be fun tomorrow- I’m looking forward to it. Here’s some helpful links:

Thanks, in advance for giving back to our community.

Hi Dan- welcome to our group. Since we are only a four-member team so far, I'm going to wait a bit before registering for the walk online. Perhaps more people will join over the next few days. That’ll give us more time to come up with a name, too (other than Barefoot Hikers of Ct, I assume). Kevin, could this be a name we would use for the Autism Walk, also- and for other future events? Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Hi Joanne - I would like to join the team for this. I went to the CT Food Bank website. If you start the Barefoot Hikers team on their website I will join. Thanks.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
