Barefoot City Walk New Haven 2013- 9th Square

As requested by Larry, here’s the lowdown on Barefoot City Walk New Haven 2013. The website I used for the last New Haven walk is under construction, so I found this one. It’s not as good as the city of New Haven’s but it’ll have to do: http://www.unanchor.com/itinerary/view/198#. Unanchor.com is a commercial site, there is a fee to download the tour, etc., although, that shouldn’t be necessary for our needs (unless you want to spend the cash- $6.99). When you get to the site, click on the itinerary locations as well as the human silhouettes for more information on each area.
I don’t know about y’all, but I’d like to see the inside tour of the Crypt of Center Church on the Green. The inside tour is free. The Crypt visiting hours are April - October, Thursdays and Saturdays 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. If I don't get outvoted, perhaps we can meet in front of the church and make this our first stop. Here’s the link to the Crypt at Center Church: http://newhavencenterchurch.org/history.html (scroll down about half way to get to the crypt info).

I'm glad you can still make it even though the date changed! I went to Providence recently and had a wonderful time. I'd like to talk to you about the city, if you don't mind. I would love to go back this year and see the fire water display. We'll meet in front of the church on the New Haven Green at 10:30am. The crypt tour begins at 11:00am. The itinerary page at unanchor.com is just to give folks an idea of what to expect on our walk. We won't be following the time schedule on that itinerary. see ya soon... joanne

Absolutely we should talk about the city! I also lived in Boston before and feel Providence is a smaller and less polished version of Boston : ) see you soon as well

Hi! I just joined this group and would love to go to this, as exploring New Haven barefoot-hiking-style is perfect. However I don't have a car so I will be taking Amtrak from Providence. I am wondering how good is New Haven's public transport in case if we end up beyond walking distance from the Amtrak station. If public transport is not good --- I would ask a huge huge favor if anyone would not mind giving me a ride then at the end to New Haven Amtrak. Thanks all!

      Welcome to our meet-up Yi,
I’m glad you’re making the trip from Providence. Much like Providence, New Haven is a great city for walking. You’ll have to start a barefoot meet-up in RI.
So, I was looking at the bus schedule for Saturdays and I made a call to CT transit. According to them you should take the Kimberly Avenue line out of Union Station. It looks like the first stop is the one you need (Church and Chapel, the New Haven Green). From that corner you will walk diagonally to the church in the center of the green. The tour starts at 11:00am. Buses run every half hour. When you arrive in New Haven, the bus leaves Union Station at 10:03 and then again at 10:33 arriving at the Church and Chapel five minutes later.
      Here’s a link to the schedule…

I can give you a ride back to the station at the end of the day.
      see ya there.

Thank you so much for the help Joanne! I look forward to see you there. When I become a veteran barefoot hiker (and by then if I still live in Rhode Island) I will certainly try to organize a meet-up in the Ocean State :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
