Fireside Chat with Michael Bryzek, Co-Founder & CTO of Gilt Groupe

  • May 12, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Gilt groupe has emerged as one of NY's most prominent startups, expanding rapidly from their initial focus on flash site into different eCommerce areas.  Scaling to this size has brought on a lot of challenges, including how to grow their technology, how to evolve process, and how to deliver faster.  Gilt group is a big proponent of Scala language, and internally uses an architectural style called LOSA (Lots of Small Services) running over 400 different small services that interact with each other.

In this fireside chat and Q&A, we will talk about the evolution of the company's technology, team, process and culture.

Michael Bryzek - Co-Founder & CTO at Gilt. MIT Alum. Husband. Father. Triathlete.

Michael is the CTO and co-founder of Gilt Groupe [], an innovative online shopping destination offering its members special access to the most inspiring merchandise, culinary offerings, and experiences every day, many at insider prices. Gilt continually searches the world for the most coveted brands and products, including fashion for women, men, and children; home decor; artisanal ingredients; hotels and travel experiences on every continent; and unique activities in a growing list of cities and destinations. We believe that every day is an opportunity to inspire and be inspired. Michael has built Gilt's technology platform to support massive bursts of traffic as sales start every day at noon. He holds a BSc and Masters in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

After the talk, we will go to a local bar to continue the conversation over beers. We'll go to Lilli's Victorian Establishment, 13 E 17th Street by Union Square.

Thank you to all the facilitators and Michael! I appreciate the story about Michael's entrepreneurial dad having saved his own life by his own invention years prior; work-life balance prioritizing based on 1. family, 2. work and 3. fitness; and especially the part about the cells growing then dividing.

Excellent. Jean facilitated well. It was nice the way Mike weaved his personal story, his family story, some good tech discussions, and back out to the personal again. I think that's a hallmark of a good Fireside chat. Very enjoyable.

Unfortunately I cannot make it. Seems like an excellent event and speaker. I wish someone can record this.
