I'm a young NYC developer and want to learn how tech startups are put together.
Node.JS is cool. I know PHP well enough. I also know and use Lasso at work, though I wouldn't choose it for new projects.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet gotten on board the testing train. I'd love to learn one or two of them in the near future. I've heard good things about QUnit on the client side.
git. It's fast. It's easy to start using for a project (no server required!). It's powerful when you need it to be (rebase!). It's widely used right now.
